For those of you who dont know, my motor is currently torn down for a rebuild.
I figured i would start a thread so you guys can keep track of what goes down.
First off, this is a 05 Trx450r, that started off as my little stock bike, and progressed into this.
I do all the motor assembly and work myself, but the porting and everything is done by racers edge az, and tuned by Cameron @ Redline Racing.
Here is my last motor, specs were as follows
Stock Stroke Falicon Supercrank
Stockbore 12.25:1 Cp piston
Stock Ignition
Modded ESR intake
Dasa Pipe
43.5mm Racers Edge Bored FCR carb
Rec Head from Racers Edge
+1 Ferrea valves in all four corners
KW spring kit
05 HRC cam
As far as builds go, this was a milder build running 92 octane pump gas with that HRC cam

Next up, will be these specs
Same Crank, Carb, Pipe, Stockbore, Same Springs, valves.
Changes will be up the CR to about 14:1 via CP piston and decked head
Racers Edge 05 CNC race head
Web 208/921 Billet FBC
And most likely an FCI intake. I will be testing a few intakes, and whatever wins is what i will run.
it will be dynoed on the same dyno as above, and that dyno is known for being a little low. I also have numbers and graphs off a different dyno, if your interested in them too, but i think those numbers are pretty close.
FEW CHANGES
It will be around 14.8:1, the head being decked. It will have a Dynatek Programmable Ignition, and will be ran on C-12 for now. More testing later with MRX-01
testing ESR intake, FCI intake, Racers Edge Intake Setup
Dyno Day is set for this Sat Most likely
Stuff is coming tommorow in the mail, i will have pics then.

GOOD LUCK KIP on the build. Let me know about this weekend.
SHES ALIVE!!!
Thanks A ton to my buddies Lane and Dylan for late night help, and Depotman, and Quikshrk for helping fix my mistakes.
Long story short, two long nights, a broken shift drum, split cases 3 times, and broken oil ring, she is running.
It idles narly with that 208!
Off to get some sleep. Stay tuned for dyno results tommorow.......i mean today.

I'm way curious on the intake set ups!
Here it is.......

Blue Run is the Dyna Ignition on curve 2, the green is the stock cdi: You will notice it does not pick up the last 700 RPMs on the stock CDI curve. Something between the PC and the dyno and it didnt pick it up.
I tried a bunch of different things today. I dont have graphs for them all though.
FCI intake, Dynatek ignition curve 2- Lean spikes across the board. Threw in a 230 main and got it down to around a 15:1 AFR reading. Still too lean. I think cutting it down could have fixed this.
Stock Boot Racers Edge Intake Setup, Dynatek curve 2- Good AFR, revved good, smoothest curve, but could have benefitted from a shorter intake boot.
ESR intake, Dynatek Ingition curve 2- Ran the best out of all, carried out the peak to another 300RPMs and picked up some power.
I tried all the curves on the dyna, and 2 was the best overall, the difference was small.
The stock CDI box picks up a lot of power over the Dynatek. I need to get it programmed. That will be at a later date.
Had some fuel heat soaking issues, and it needs a stronger clutch, programmed CDI, and Better Fuel.
Testing was done with C-12.
Thanks a lot to DJ(Rebel) for helping me swap parts and for the use of his intake. Thanks also to my buddies lane and dylan for help swapping parts, and of course to Cam @ Redline and John at racers Edge AZ.
Expect to see this thing at FSW fully tuned and ready to go!

Nice results Kip.
Looks like the green curve would have pulled a few more ponies than the blue...very odd how it didn't pick up.
Cam Said it had something to do with the way the Dyno Transfers its info to the PC and the delay between the two. He said it does it sometimes.
IDK, but you can tell the stock curve will make more power. Probably into the 62 range. I need to get the dynatek to work like the stock CDI so i have the extra RPMS.
-Kip
From the previous build, i gained 5hp peak, and 2 ftlbs peak, but the butt dyno shows a world of difference.
It revs like crazy, and has tons of TQ down low, but it screams up top. It has all the bottom and mid i would ever want, the throttle response is amazing, and it pulls and pulls and pulls.
I think i will need a longer swinger!

Holy crap, very nice! At this point, I believe as soon as I get a job and have some money saved up my mods are going to be changing =] I cannot wait to see that b!tch run.
Thanks guys! I really wish my dyna worked, because i dont think ill be peaking out before the rev limiter, but ill bring both this weekend and see how they do.
Im hoping the extra TQ and Attitude of the CR and the 208/921 will let this sucker launch hard, because thats where i was sufffering before.

thats strange that it didnt pick up the stock cdi. i had the opposite problem on the dyno. with the dynatec, the tq reading wouldnt show up. operator said that happens often with the dyna. stock never gives an issue.
like yours, mine liked the stock curve better than the dynatec on curve 1. very small difference at peak. dynatec picked up a hp or so here and there across the run.
i would like to get the stock curve programmed as well. like to see how it does. i dont expect much, maybe .5hp or possibly 1. might as well get it if its there.
keeping my eyes peeled for a 208 and a dasa pipe. looking for 60.
nice build kip.

so this being as you say "race head" is this considered a gen1 or gen2? or either? just curious, thanks
Racers Edge offers two 04-05 Heads.
A rec head, which is a handported head. Good for mostly everything mild to wild.
and a CNC race Head. Requires extensive setup of course, but anyone can call down to RE and get this head. This is the same one thats on Hobos bike.
-Kip
BTW, thanks for the good comments everyone! Expect to see this thing with a bit more by the time FSW comes around.

gen1 and gen2 are only on the 06+ heads......
for the 04-05's there is rec hand porting and then there is cnc
with all these questions you guys have i think you should just call them.........

I wasn't trying to start anything. I'm the last guy you have to worry about in that area.
Maybe Hobo's started out like yours, but I guarantee it got some love from Brett that no other head gets that comes out of their shop. It's just like Morgan used to say. Why would they offer their very best to everyone just to get beat by their own build? Not everything RE does is available to the public and I would bet that the head on Hobo's bike is just one example of that. I'm one of the people that actually agree with them not offering it to every Joe Blow that comes along.
BTW, you do have a very nice build going. I assume you'll be racing the shooters class? Should be fun because the fast boys are coming to Oregon.
Ill be running the shooters class.
I always thought RE kept secrets, but call and talk to John, not Morgan. Even though morgan said that they should keep some stuff in house, John(The Owner) thinks that everyone should get the best.
I think the head on Hobos bike is very similar to my head. Different in valve configuration, and defiantely lots more of his setup.
It would be best to call and ask John about it. I cant promise you that my head is .005 within every measurement on the RE Koth Bike or Hobos old bike, only John/Brett can tell you that. Remeber, Morgan is no longer part of Racers Edge Az.

I know from seeing vids of you that you're a pretty light guy, so make sure you make weight BEFORE the race. It sucks seeing people DQ'd over a couple pounds. When they have the scales available during practice, weigh in with an almost empty gas tank and that will let you know you can add a few pounds if necessary.
Thanks for the tip Steve!
I need all the help i can get!

bueller how can you compare? his is a stock stroke stock bore... its making great power for being just that... my old bike was a big bore stroker 565 so of course it made more power even if it had a "similiar head" to my old bike... its all about combination and set up.. i know a lot of "built" stock bores around that make 50-55
Thanks Hobo. Im glad to be making the power that a lot of big bore builds arent making. With some more adjustment, i should have a potent SB/SS combo.

I just disagreed that his head was the same exact head that was on your bike. And the reasons you stated are why I disagreed in the first place. His is a SB and yours was a big bore. Different builds require different things.

Sorry Kip for the hijack. Hopefully nothing I said was taken negatively. Nothing was meant by any of it.
Good luck at the FSA race. Anything over 60 HP has an honest shot at winning. The winner will probably be the one who leaves first without a red light.
