had first hillclimb here in district 11 this past weekend. i was cranked up as usual. ready to kick some tail. bike is running strong. dont like to brag, but i was feeling good about sweeping both races this weekend. but it didnt happen.
saturday didnt go as i had hoped. rained on way to race and didnt stop till about a half hour before first run. it was like riding in soup. i figured my first run would have to be my best. realizing the conditions, i should have changed sprockets or ran in second gear. but...... i didnt. duhhhh.
bumped the limiter for the better part of the run. still had a good run. ran an 8.2. good for 5th. fast time in class was 8.0. top 5 was within .2 of one another. some good tight racing. if i had the right cog on that thing, i easily would have took the win. i am still sick about it.
once again........ 2 that finished ahead of me were 1000cc crotch rocket quads. so mine holds its own against some runners.
i never got a second run cause the bikes chewed the hill up something terrible.
sunday the day hill shaped up nice. good sticky dirt. lots of hook. had a first run of 10.4. good to hold 2nd. made a gear swap and knocked .4 off my second run. ran a 10 even. still only managed second place though. another dude on a crotch rocket quad ran a 9.6 for first. i admit he had a great run. so i felt good about it.
losing saturday was my fault. which is what makes me so mad.
just wanted to give an update. 2nd and a 5th aint to bad.
john...... thanks again. its a runner. had better times than many bikes of larger displacement, and stroked banshee's.
next event i'm gonna sweep.

Very cool.......it sounded like a blast. I've always had a certain fondness of large steep sand hills myself..... back in the day trying to climb them on 200x's and warriors...lol Eventually settling in on a trx250r! Sounds like your bike is running great Steve. Good luck on your next climb.

LOL

thanx so much for the report... always good to get a nice read about an event ... my grandmother used to call living the event through another's writings as being an "armchair traveler"... :)
and thanx so much for the awesome representation..!

had hillclimb #2 of the year in AMA district 11.
saturday it was raining and my back was killing me, so i never left the couch. they ran the hill, but i said heck with it.
sunday, i loaded up and headed out.
like before, had a few crotch rockets there. hill was a little greasy, so i geared tall. i ripped off 9.7 on first run. got me 1st place. fastest i have ever ran on the sunday hill.
second round, 1 of the crotch rocket boys got me. he ran a 9.3. the hill was super fast. long story short, i pulled the front end and screwed my run. never even made the hill. LOL. still got me 2nd overall. not to bad. not having rode it since May.
no other 4 strokes, other than the rocket and myself, went under 10 seconds. i never had done that myself. some good competition as well. some nicely built yfz's and a 533 runnin a rage head.
real proud of how the old girl runs.
again, thanks john.

Nice Steve. Stinks the back is all out of whack on you but glad to hear you were able to go on Sunday. You need to get a video of the hill climb. Would be cool to watch! Congratz on the 1st place finish.

Good job Steve!! Sounds like your bike is running really good, especially for a pump gasser. What kind of setup do you guys run for a hill climb? Is it on sand or dirt? Anyways, congratulations on the 1st place and even better on 2nd overall.

thanks sonny and gary.
the hill is dirt. mud sometimes. we run the trusty old ohtsu radials that come on the older 400ex. most of us do anyway. best combo of traction and wheel spin when you need them to.
it was just me on sunday, so i didnt have a video man. my dad took my boy to his soccer game. maybe the next 1 here in a couple weeks. mya have to send it to someone. i have no idea how to post video. lol. computer illiterate.

Man I hear that! Im slowly getting better at the computer but its not my gig at all. Im proud of myself cause yesterday I made some really sweet spread sheets for my business that will really help me maximize profitabilty and help with organization. Too much damn paper work on top of a ton of work. I need to take advantage of this pretty expensive computer setup I have.

update from last race weekend of season. saturday oct. 17. had alot of good competition for not that many riders. had a couple 700 raptors with extended swingers and duals. plus the regular crowd. not much to report. had a good run even with bad conditions. i ran a 7.2 and the same R-1 powdered quad thats beat me regularly ran a 7.1. i didnt race on sunday. i was already out of getting 1st for the year, so i chose my boys soccer game instead.
finished 3rd for the year in the district. even missing 2 races.
rumor is that next year the hybrid crotch rocket quads will be in their own class. hopefully.
only thing on my mind now is next year. amatuer national is gonna be in dayton, ohio at the devils staircase. gunning for a national #1. already got some changes and ideas in mind.
