slapping this up here, its one crappy pic...ill get some bigger better photos later of the assembly

Cant decide on a play bike or an outright drag pony?

thats a plus six swinger on it, and a Jand J hillshooter axle behind it on the ground....

got a bunch of parts rolling in and i have everything i need to run it, besides:

gen1 spindles , brakes and calipers, controls (only spindles needed for a drag setup
need to go through the bottom end of a motor i have with a plus 3 crank, and rebuild it
need a a few odds and ends also but nothing a few hundos cant fix

i have about 900 in the bike and it should be running and pieced together for under the 1300-1400 mark

frame is powdercoated a copper color and straight as an arrow... i bought it like this from bbr, I was thinking of painting the arms black as they are bead blasted currently, and the swinger black, i have two different rear ends I can put on it...even have a shock with it that says raistlin12..lol

if you have some cheap gen1 spindles let me know.. i have gen1 arms and hubs already..

_specialED.gif

so should I ....
DRAG OR PLAY?

does anyone know if you can rattlecan a radiator? or paint it cheaply without hindering its cooling properties?

ive seen it done before but im not sure what they used. i wouldnt see why you couldnt do just a VERY light coat. i dont think it would hurt anything
Raistlin 12
Ya, a while back I traded for his stockbore dragger. So he has some of my original stock stuff.

hondaman01
i say all drag!!!

are you just missing the bottom arms? or are you saying that perhaps my gen1 bottom arms will work with the rest of your gen2 setup ? For casual riding or dragging you cannot beat the easy steering of the 06 front end components on a gen1 frame, but they do have a lot of bumpsteer. It sucks though the popularity of the gen1 front end has driven the price up on the components...

the bottom arms on all years are the same, its the uppers are different, the 06 upp arms are shorter

i dont believe the 06 setup has any different bumpsteer but form what i know the 04 turns quicker is all
these upper arms have been spray painted black and they have been just laying around for a couple months so they ned new paint but i was selling the spindles and hubs for 100 shipped ill through in the upper arms for free, or i may be able to make a even better deal

PM me if you wold want them

and yea the 04-05 usually go about 150-200 from what ive seen

I rattle canned my radiator before last season when I did my full teardown for powdercoat. I cleaned it really good and primered it then put maybe 3 coats of semigloss black on it. It looks great and does not heve any chips in it and I do not feel like it changes the way it works. Hell when you get a radiator rebuilt in a car the radiator shop usually paints them....and I live in Vegas where it gets 120 and I have never had an issue with paint. Just make sure you clean good, use quality paint and put 3 nice even coats on it.
miller450r
thanks for the rattle can story! Here are a few worthless shots of progress..

sadly the +6 swingram will be sold or is for sale.. nice piece... i cant justify a duner dragger though...

i am going all long travel and gearing this as a comfy bike for the wife and I to play on... it might have to run like this for a bit but i have a set of Hydrodynamic +2 arms coming in a few weeks., all brand new, then I will sell those for best offer, then im gonna find a long travel front end for this baby and have a stock shock for the rear made by Andy at maultech.

The motor is coming along also. I had a lightly used venom 12.25 to 1 piston here and new rings and my in the hole specs are NICE, like .009-.010, you can see it isn't much n the pics also.....
But should I take a bit off the bottom of the cylinder and run it even tighter? (I will) lol _specialED.gif

now this thing needs a head hmmmmm book.gif
Zach648
I like that stand, cheap-o..... Not that have any room to talk, I usually use an ice chest. LOL

i can make you one of these if you want they come in pairs! Also you have to know how to cut those 2x4's just right.
and those are 9x9 so they provide the ultimate stability...lol.

jhln8c
Looks good Jeff, hope to see it runnin out and around soon
miller450r
shameless sales plug removed for your safety
miller450r
well i have a heavy duty swingarm now.. +1 .25 , I do not know exactly what brand it was but it was cheap. The guy said it was a houser or lonestar, but I know better. Its very nice though, and I THINK its an SMC brand. He said it was sitting around for two years as he went to a longer swinger but this thing is nice, like new. VERY TOUGH looking

if anyone wants to trade a used BLACK TM design works chain guide for this BLUE one, let me know, I cant be havin this blue thing with my scheme here of all BLACK.

AND SOMEONE BUY THIS +6 T_DUB (^above) ALREADY ITS MINT!!!! money back guarantee! 270 shipped with a GOOD non- oring chain and sprocket will not separate!!!!!
Nor*Cal
Looking good Miller, good luck the rest of the way with it. And I also agree that you should have no problem painting the radiator.
poorboy
I like that swinger Jeff. Debs bike is got most of the parts laying next to it.

I need to clean up the frame and what not.

I'll have the fly wheel off and the cases split most likely before the night is out.

Had to come in and take a break It's still about 88 degrees out hope the storm cools it down. Right now i'm wrenching on the blazer. Got one more spark plug and wire to go. it's the hard one with the steering column in the way.A few other things need to get replaced on it before I move to the quad but since Debs fell out about an hour ago I have nothing much else to do.

How bout you? Doin some late night wrenching?
poorboy
Well the blazere is done for now needs some more work.

But I am victorious the crank is out and on the bench. I'll organize it all better in the morning so i can Get debs motor on the way down.. Now I'm all pumped up and can't sleep.
miller450r
Ok so i have some new black hydrodynamic a-arms coming, I bought a set of them used for 175 shipped back around Christmas, and then when I got them they were in excellent shape, but the bottom arms were bending slightly.

Bummer, however instead of griping at the guy I bought them from I just called Hydrodynamics up and they gave me a new set!!!!!!!!! I may or may not use them but I want black arms on this build so I probably will. I have a feeling that the guy I bought them from was really airing it out with stiff shocks, and lets just say I do not plan on doing that. Other than that they are built very nice with the same huge ball joints as my JD Performance arms on my red TT quad.

I am going to get the springs on my GTT shocks PC'd black, front and rear. I am also going to try to find AXIS shocks but who knows if I will.

So i am just going to black it all out and possibly get the hubs and everything PC'd black also. And finish it off with White plastic. No graphics of course! Pics soon to come.
miller450r
almost forgot , i have a chrome tag metals +1 stem, and a lonestar extended axle coming also,

Ill see how the stem looks and possibly get it PC'd black also. Have some renthal fatbars here also to go on it.
miller450r
well parts are everywhere and it coming together, here is a preview......

Stuff is going to the powdercoaters and the motor is buttoned up and rings installed after some measuring i did.

I estimate it is made from the oem parts of 57 different 450r's geek.gif

more in the coming weeks....
miller450r
these puppies, my JD arms , are going to the PC to get black, or maybe black chrome.. cant have red thats for sure

should i do the oem swinger..? i like the silver finish to be honest... if i PC it it will show chips...

miller450r
here is my initial intake tract, stock 06+ intake , 40mm crf fcr, stock filter and metal cage, might do the rossier trick to it... but i can test a bigger carb i have a racers edge 43.5 here aslo

also got the delrin reso block off plug... vortex cdi, and AMR monster coil off ebay

the used AMR coil was 17 on ebay and works fine, the programmable vortex was 99 lol
miller450r
this brand new tag stem was 69 dollars on ebay and HONDAMAN, RICK found it for me!!!

+1 tag , supposedly there is a scratch in it, its perfect actually..

oh well shoppers, check this out.. those bars and OS bar clamps and rubbers are stock hond oem crf250 parts, snagged for like 40 bucks, fatbars, idk probably added on, but i bought the unit as a whole

slid right onto the tag stem..... 1022.gif

also, all crf450 and 250 oem rubbers work as a replacement for many of our antivibe atv stems

geek.gif
miller450r
the crf carb came with a twist throttle and im gonna go with it for now since this is just a goofing around quad..

i ride bikes so i like it...
jhln8c
looks like this thing is gonna be sweet and fun, U should let me take your 43.5 FCR just for kicks thumbup.gif
miller450r
you dont have a big carb yet? lol

i found my first hood from the old red bike ...lol

looks like i might sell this 04/05 headlight and go with no headlight or an 06 light setup...

you can see how it fits the 06 plastic.., I need an 06 stock hood now..

you just cut the front of the screen cage from an 06 filter, you cut it off, use the little ring to support a big filter, there was a pic but its gone... im sure ill eventually get a noss or adaptor like on my other carb, who knows...
miller450r
snagged a hood....... anyone used these and know how this will work? does it bolt on over the front plastic? I think this is like Gerry's YQR hill bike hood but not sure...
miller450r
the guy i bought it form showed a shot of it instsalled...looks like it goes over and the sticker i can remove..

Pretty sure that is the same hood Willett runs. Might try asking him.
miller450r
sweet yeah i wanted it because i can keep my lights, it works well for letting light through the guy said.. or you can run without also

i just checked and he has the complete fullbore setup.. so its a little different but kinda sim
desertbound
The hood goes over the plastics and is removed very easily. I have one. Here it is installed. Mine has more circular holes for trailtech lights, but other than that it is exactly the same.

miller450r
cool, i cant wait to try it on the white plastic, i know when these hoods are refinished they can be made to look badass.....
miller450r
well i got the hood, and another piece to the quad that might be really important....

what do you know, someone ported the would be " JJ " head for me for FREE !! Isnt that Crazy in this day and age?

_specialED.gif

but before you ask, no im not going to dyno it and tell everyone what happenned...that wouldnt be any fun at all... lol
miller450r
yup i gots a new toy....thanks Jared!

as you can tell its nots milled.....starting out on pump and going from there..
miller450r
all ferrea springs and retainers and ss valves...

jhln8c
thumbup.gif
miller450r
yup its a big thumbs up... !! very nice job and I decided not to show all the ports and everything, trying to keep things respectable and will have to decline the intake port picture requests, sorry. Ive always said that how it looks to eye is not the most important thing. But this head is very pleasing to the eye and shares some similarities with my wpp/wicked head and is very different in other areas. As far as performance its really not a fair comparison , different valves, valve sizes, springs, x-section, milling vs not milled etc.

really through ordering a few heads, and also helping friends install and work on quads, I have had my hands on 6-8 different heads from different speedshops , not to mention viewing pictures, its very interesting to study them and see the differences.
(and as i say that i admit right away i have not had my hands on venom, rage , racers edge heads, so no poop slingin or finger pointing here to anyone)
I will have to say that out of all of them this is the only head that has equaled the wpp wicked port job as far as visual appeal and tidiness of work and certain areas I am fascinated with. ( but really dont know it all, not even close)

how they shape the short side, is it round? is it flat? how did the shape affect the turn?
what they did to the guide boss area, so many diff style, or did they just whack them off lol (Jared does not)
cc chamber - removed as little as possible!
ex-port - always seems to be an area of the gen 1 head you hear a lot of talk of the most problems (next to the SSR) they always say a novice who removes too much will kill throttle response and cut power..
Just the general evenness and symmetry in regard to the amount of material taken off of each side is awesome, and the smoothness of the work, which always does not mean squat in the long run , but provides the eye candy we all love

try to get this bolted on a ridden soon!! thanks again Jared

one more thing when i sent the head to him , it looked like dogpoo, very ugly, when it came back he obviously had cleaned the bejesus out of it and it looks new again, its hard not to love that , i wish i had a good parts washing sink and system like that
