One tirck is, if your going fairly quick you can turn the wheels and steer your self a bit, if thats the prob, cuz u cant sterr, other then that keep the balace good and other, im up to 1.5- 2 miles 5th gear cruising starting from 1st, lol going down the road on the rear 2

try fourth gear wheelies.. you can ride longer distances in a shorter period of time.. I've also found in the sand a 21" hauler is much easier to ride a long wheelie on than a 20" hauler .. dont' ask me why but it is significantly different.
Also, I do them standing.. seems easier for me.. keep your right foot over the brake lever.. just in case... going over at 50 mph will cause marks :(

It's all about being comfortable. I have to do em sitting cuz I get tired standing  Practice and find that balance point, use throttle and rear brake!

i havnt found my ballance point on my 450r, but on my old blaster i could ride forever on a wheelie. lean to one side to turn. practice practice practice. once you find a good ballance point its real real easy and doesnt feel any different from ridding on all fours. once you get your ballance point its all throttle control from there. the snappy throttle of the 450r will be a little harder to get used to than a quad like the blaster.

I find it's harder with aftermarket shocks. They compress and make it harder to wheelie. I'm getting the hang of it though with my Elka,, Now that I put a longer swingarm on it seemed to balance it out better with the Elka shock. I can ride wheelie's sitting down or standing in any gear!! Balance is the key!! :D

Cheater!

I used to do it that way because it was so much easier. So much for fun sitting down, looks cooler too. But, while you are doing it with one foot back, try to get your balance point while going really slow on pavement, and take both hands off .. tough, I got it ONCE

you may have miss-read what I said.. I keep both feet on the pegs with the right situtated over the rear brake to tap it in case you start going over. I don't see many doing them sitting down at 50+ mph..
I know some put their one foot on the rear grab bar to help get them up easier but I don't.
I prefer to doing them standing since I ride allot in the standing position unless just cruising..

I ride sittin down, i can start from dead stop fisrt to WFO 5th all while sitting, down, i also have tall gearing so it really flys, a few tiems i was going so fast that the front end didnt come down till i let off the gas and slowed enough for the wind to stop holding it up.

i usually do them standing with both feet on teh pegs but when i ride them for distance ill bring it up standing and sit down. for me putting on foot on teh grabbar made it harder to do sit down wheelies.

yes going 50 mph will leave marks, but going 60 will leave even better marks, trust me i know. to make a long story short i was going down an asphalt road showing off doing a standing up wheelie in fourth gear at 60 mph and it went back to far and i hesitated and pressed the front brakes not thinking. The back bar touched and shot me off and i slid for about 50 feet and the bike went over on its side and slid a little, only did cosmetic damage, i got the worse of it though.
lets just say im not too fond of doing wheelies on the road anymore, ill stick to doing them in softer places like sand.

Damn, I feel like a novice. I've never ever mastered the art of the wheelie. Even when I was a kid riding bicycles, never more than 30-40 feet tops. I'll power wheelie through the whoops if need be, but as far as just a wheelie for the hell of it....never could do it. If I wanted to ride on 2 wheels I would have bought a bike I guess.

i can wheelie as long as i want, assuming that i don't have to turn. even switching from one side of the bike to the other doesn't seem to help at all. my favorite has to be when you wheelie by some girls on the beach, and take ur hand off and turn around and wave

here's a kool little one for u guys to try out if u want. i tried it last weekend but an injured wrist kept me from being able to hang on to the bars. try wheeling while standing up (both feet on the pegs), but have the handlebars behind you. meaning you are standing backwards on the quad. likei said, i couldn't hang on, imma try it on our 250ex next chance i get, those things r the best for wheelies.
