The flats past vendor area would be a cool place to "pitch a tent" and camp. Its a very busy area since everybody is driving by to get to Olds and to Gecko sand drags and just rolling down Sand Highway in general...but If you have a 4x4 and can get in deep enough then you will be good to go and be in a way convenient spot to see everything and get to everything easily. You will also want to do yourself a favor and go to the Beach General store and buy a map of the dunes so you can somewhat navigate around. But mostly just follow the crowds to all the best spots. Also you wanna hit up the Sand Drags off Gecko at around 3pm daily for all the excitement even though its a far journey on a quad. Then Olds hill anytime but its a blast at night after dinnertime...til whenever you want.
Also a big factor in camping is that even though its California....it will be cold AND windy so be prepared with LOTSA firewood, warm clothes, and warm riding gear. You will Love it...there is riding for days and days.

I take the "razorbacks" are sharp drop off's on the backside of a dune?? If it's snakes were out!!lol
