Im trying to get my bike down to 300lbs Ready to race, so i can get closer to the 420lbs minimum weight for FSA pro Class. I weigh about 140 and will be riding the bike. I will go on a diet and get as close as i can.
So Far, i Have my heelguards off, no airbox, i will be removing head and taillight, fenders off in front, shaved in back, it will have ultralight paddles and .125 Wheels, and im hoping to have a drag axle on it.
For those of you that have weighed your bikes, and have put your bikes on diets, what will it take to achieve the 300lb wet weight?
What is the most accurate and easiest way to weigh a quad?
Thanks!-Kip

Oh and it has a +3 SLC arm, that Should be lighter than stock, along with a Dasa Pipe that should be lighter.

i'm throwin this out there remove all front brakes and rotor's front shocks and put in snowmobile drag struts in place, super lite drag cut rims, rewire and get rid of the ones you dont need.drill 3/4inch tapered to 1/2 inch holes in rear brake pedel, check to see if that steel one is lighter than stock, i have one only 2 inch asr and it weighs little more than stock.remove bumpers and grab bar.drill 4 nice size holes in the rear sprocket run with aluma not steel. drag foot pegs see if any of this cut weight they worked good for me, i'm 300lbs by myself so i need to shave the most weight off i can.

just a couple small things.. take off your parking break. relocate your light and key to get rid of the thing on your bars. new bars and stem, i know EKO makes a very light drag stem. Im not really sure what else.

small aluminum fuel tank, JJ&A makes real nice drag axles, you could even check out a single a-arm set up.

They will be replaced with .125 Rims all around, on Ultralight Tires.
What does it weigh now would you guess? With the ultralight tires, no headlight, no bumper, tailight, or grab bar?

you really don't want to start removing stuff with out knowing what she weights now. the safest thing to do is get her weight and go from there.....save your self some headaches and weight her in.....remember you dont want to register and pay 80$ to be under weight.
and next time start this thread at the tech......lol

I would look for some 250r front shocks... that would also save you some... You can do what I did with my front Aarms... free if you do the work yourself......
Modified Stock Aarms

250r shocks.... they where set on the softest setting... after adjusting, bike sits higher from front.

Kip my 08 is around 315 or so, but to get there I run marvin shaws all three saves about 18lbs, a ti stem with cf bars, drag pegs, jj&a play axle, no plastics on the rear, no front fenders, and .125 rims and triple buffs on the rear with mohawks on the front. I could eaisly lose a little more with lighter front tires.
If your looking at the pro class you could remove the brakes and run spindle mounts with should save you quite a bit more.
To weigh my bike I use two digital bathroom scales. First under the front and then under the back and add together. Will get you in the ballpark...

Ok, so i finally got it weighed tonight.
It was wet, and sandy, so i wiped away what i could.
My 05 Kicker weighed 349 Lbs with about 4/5 tank of fuel, full with oil and coolant. This is with a bumper, headlights, tailight, grab bar, Non buffed 22x11x8 8 paddle haulers on .160s, and Kenda Fronts on .160s.
What do you guys think i could get it down to if i took more unneccesary stuff off and put some ultralights on there. Anything can come off for the race, as long as it goes back on.
This is how it sits.

see, this is where you have to decide if its a duner or drag bike. i like the look of the bare bones drag bikes but like lights and brakes.
im the same way with my s-10. i could make it faster, but the driveability goes away and its way cool going to the drag strip with a street car and outrunning trailer'd race cars.
i know you want to win all the races, (as do i, and most others) but you have to decide on how far it goes.
if you beat me but have to go back to camp to put it back together ill call cheating!!

The only reason i am trying to get so low, is to run the Pro Class for FSA, before and after that, it will look like the picture above. It is a duner bike, not a drag bike, but it will be undergoing a makeover for FSA

remove front bumper, different front shocks, lighter rims and tires all around, fan, head lights, and run only about 1 gal of fuel... those are all the things i can think of...

Apr 28 2009, 02:28 AM
oh and the front breaks...

Apr 28 2009, 03:14 AM
Take off all the lights...Take off bumper. Shave your plastics even more, take off your fan and fan shroud, run only the amount of fuel you need for each race Take off your front calipers and brakeline and lever. Those are the free things that come to mind....have money to spend then......spindle mounts and no front brakes with 18" smooth fronts. Race cut rears with Ultra buffs....drag axle....Marvin Shaws...Drag pegs...ti stem....the list can go on but as for free stuff just sit and look at the bike and think of stuff that can be removed but easily replaced later on. Its amazing how fast each little lightweight part adds up the weight.

Your bike is Gorgeous and very impressive looking....My bike looks quite bare bones almost like yours but its a wide loaded duner....just have my plastics shaved to a bare minimum but all my functional parts are still there. I go to Dumont 10 times a year and am shocked I have never seen you at the hill.

Kip, Aldo has some good advice, sls all the way around and drag cut wheels will help...ltz400 shocks work in the front as well.
remove:
grab bar
billet pegs
brake light switches
steering stem/drag stem
etc
pm if you need some advice or call me brother...520-971-2849

We havent decided on what class yet. I may still run the duners.

I didn't read all the posts but and easy way is now that you know the starting weight of your bike just weigh parts as they come off on a regular scale... I use all front bake so when I hit florence I won't be running lights, rear brakes, heelguards, a buncha wiring that I decided i didn't need lol, and whatever else doesn't look important while i have it all torn apart. If you need to know I'll let you know how much that stuff weighs.

By the way get rid of the quote. It really isn't too cool man. I've never had a ticket (interesting story), never PULLED a gun on anyone, and I only beat ppl by three bike lengths in 3rd or 4th gear.lol
Fasst, im not interested in your opinion, thanks anyways.
Change of plans! Found out lostboys will not be hitting Oregon, so i will be representing in the duners class.505 will be easier to obtain
