I need a set of rings for a 14:1 Venom 2-ring piston in an 07 450R. I just put the piston in a few months ago, but apparently I didn't hone the cylinder properly because the rings seem like they didn't seat completely. The engine burns oil now, whereas it never did with the stock piston and rings. I've tried calling KBR twice in the last few weeks and have left messages, but haven't gotten a call back yet. Is it normal for the bike to burn oil with that piston? The oil also seems to become dirty much quicker and there were metal shavings in the oil filter the first time I changed it after break-in. I never had any problems whatsoever before I put the Venom piston in. Oh, and I use Motul 300V oil and change it after every other long ride. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Call Venom Performance directly an Tress will get you fixed up ASAP on a new ring pack. There # is 517-655-2870.

As far as proper installation, you first have to make sure the cylinder is properly de-glazed and cleaned. Also, it is important that the new rings are properly gapped.

Finally, proper break-in is imperative with the nitrided rings. A fast, hard break-in with strong acceleration AND deceleration (engine braking) to properly seat the rings before the sharp edges are worn off the rings...

Hope that helps- Kris

Thanks alot for the info. I did deglaze and clean the cylinder but didn't think it needed further honing. I checked and set the gaps at both the top and bottom of the cylinder. Also, I broke it in the way you described. Not sure what the problem is.
