thats interesting, I thought the honda had a little more peak hp than the kawi and the suzuki, it does have more torque and a lot better looking curves though. nice info, thanks.

thats about what i tought...that new test in quad magazine of the "race ready" 450s...the KTM, new Yamaha, Can Am, suuzki...the KTM killed them all...they said the motor was insane compared to the others and also said the suspension was second to none but it also cost way more...

Are these all 09 models, or what year are all of these?

Where's the DS450? I bet it would be right in the 44-45hp range or so. It is on other dyno's out of the crate.

this was the dual cam 450 sx.... all 2009 models brought to the shootout "as stock"
the polaris is a SOHC motor as well
CAN AM fail to reply to multiple invitations to the shootout, phone, fax, email ect

dirtwheels did the same exact shootout, I didnt read the whole thing, just flipped through it at the store. I did see the lap times though, and not sure if they doctored em or not, but both pro and amateur lap times had the yamaha around the track the fastest, not surprising.

Great info dlkfx450! Thanks for sharing that.
The jetting looks horrible wrong on the Zuk. In my mind, if it was tuned a bit more, you would straighten out that wiggly line a bit for a better comparison.
I expected the Honda to do the best down low out of the Zuke/Kawi/and Honda. The KTM is pretty impressive. Just a neat comparison......thanks!

^^I'm with you...I expected the Honda to be better down low.
If this test was performed with all quads being completely stock...then I would assume they are all tuned properly...and considering the Zuk is FI equipped...it should be spot on.
As for the 450R being the only SOHC....I really hope it stays that way....unless these 450s start spinning at RPMs much higher than 10-11k...there is no real need for the extra parts, cost and weight.

You can't "tune" a stock LTR. Remember, it's injected. You'd have to put a programmer on it to tune it.
And there is no "jetting" on the Zuk

You may have raced a yfz450 but probably not a yfz450r. Two very different machines. The "R" version for 2009 packs a lot more punch than the standard yfz.

According to the dyno numbers posted here.....I'd say the punches aren't much different.

Boy, true that! When I tried to switch over to the Suzuki, I was all excited to leave the unicam design behind and have full adjustability over the cam timing seperatly....... man was I proved wrong. Not only was getting to the cams a hassel, I realized I actually liked the unicam design after spending some time with the duals.
The added expense, the added time...just wasnt worth it to me. Especially to a person who goes into his top end every other day to do stuff. It just wasnt for me.

You do realize the two charts are not scaled the same, ie the one the yammy is on goes up 10 hp or so higher than the one the honda is on? so even though the curves look the same the yammy is actually up about 5 hp it looks like. Thats a big difference on a quad.

I was actually responding to a regular YFZ450/YFZ450R comparitive statement....but since you want to make this into a Yamaha/Honda comparison.....
From what I can see on the graphs the YFZ450R is making 39.93 max hp and 26.49 max tq/the TRX450R is making 37.23 max hp and 27.51 tq.
So let's see.....
YFZ450R 39.93/26.49
TRX450R 37.23/27.51
Am I missing something.

it actually dosent believe it or not...my buddy just bought one and the power was a little dissapointing compared to his 07 yfz, mabey its just that its a lot smoother due to being efi and the extra weight(man its heavy)anyway he cant wait to mod the arse off it...LOL

the curve... the yammy has a big plain at the top. Since you only mentioned the yammy and the honda those are the two I was pointing out. It would be more helpful to see all six of em on the same graph with the same scale for easier comparison.

it gets too confusing with more then 3 graphs per chart
