I hung out with a guy at the dunes one weekend and he had the ds650. i was completly stock with the exception of my itp sand stars, he wascompletly stock too with knobbies. we played on a nice long straight away where i pulled away from him first and probably thru 4th and then next i know know that bike come outta know where and scoots right past me! nice top-end power! not a very good looking bike though JMO.

doesnt have to be a straight line bike, there are plenty of lil tricks to them in the stock form to make them surprise you. my first one was a trail bike i put snows on, still had the air box and all and ran 5.5s at big river, BTW seans black and orange yfz was only running 5.4s last year with swinger and paddles _specialED.gif

I know they have more than one trick. I wan't to try one that isn't set up to drag like yours. Theirs one in IL right now that is for sale has a good suspension on it and some minor engine mods. looks damn good to.

bbr
like i said, my first ds, set up like this only with snows, ran 5.5. my ds i currently have should do 5.0 or better. i took the first ds trail riding quite a few times. it didnt have any lightweight parts on it. still had all the brakes and everything. the head light was busted when i got it. you will like them.

sweet, another project to cram into the shed huh ;).gif

this one isn't going to get alot done to it. I bought it to have when one of the others pop's and so the sis can come. Debbies bike is coming up first mine is gonna cost more so i'm gonna spend some time on it.

I will be getting s few things for the DS but not for a while. I have some tuning to do. The accelerator pump is way to strong right now and causes a bog , although it might be do to how fat it is running. Could use some better back tires to. the ones on there are decent but they are a balloon style.

and the fiber glass front will be the first thing fixed it is painted with auto body paint and minor flexing causes cracks I'm gonna lexan paint it.

Gotta get the SFA truck gone pronto so i can get Debs bike up and running. Jason get some one to buy the thing.

I was looking at a DS650 (not to buy one, just looking) and a salesman comes over and starts telling me about the machine, then he says that the thing will do 120 MPH right off the showroom floor! I nodded, thanked him for his time and laughed to myself all the way to my truck! I know these things have good top-end, but 120!?!?

Poorboy, if you get a chance, post the actual top speed of that thing, after hearing that salesman say 120, I am very curious as to what the top speed really is.
1fast450
i have a riding buddy with one of those. he has some work in it and with gearing he was able to get 89 out of it. i think he is running high comp with some head work, not much just clean up work and a ron woods pipe. and for gearing i think he has 15/37.

Thee bikes have enough power that it's not the engine Per say that slows them down. You could gear for 90+ easily although it would take away some of the grunt.

A better cdi and the right cam get some more speed to. these motors are limited to 7700 in a 02 back ds. and limited to 7900 in 03 plus or 02 back baja's.

I don't know the exact gearing on this bike but it has 22 inch tires and climbs through t the gears fast. I will do a speed run with my gps soon on it.

Mine is piped filter, ron woods carb, and most of the free mods. I;ll get my gearing and tire info an what not and post up the top speed.

I may have a vortex ignition on the way soon i'll post what that does to.
1fast450
the guy i ride with has a ron woods cdi and it is like there is no rev limit. i have ridden the bike and i was not able to rev it out. it just kept going and going.
poorboy
I'm workin on a vortex right now for 200 or less i f i don't get it i might go ron woods but i would worry about grenading the motor with no rev limit.
poorboy
The vortex is on the way right now. Gt her for 205. Any way havn't gotten to measure the speed right now but I'll tell you what she isn't slow that's for sure. I'm gonna steal my broether in laws GPS and find a long straight road and see how she does.

sweet! haha what year is it?

at least you have a quad to ride now i bet its a hoot..
Hoser
Sounds like it is a sweet running machine!

I'll be looking forward to see what you can get er to wind up to.

I know top speed isn't very important, I just thought it was funny that the salesman said 120 stock.

What type of horsepower will those motors make?
05.450r
my buddies should make 75ish he just finished it up a couple weeks ago

It is it is. Debs bike is going to coming together here soon. But I will have the DS out as soon as I get the chance,

It's an 02'. The engine hasn't been molested yet either just a slip on and filter kit. Has a suprising amountr of umph to.

It's runnin a little fat so I need to pick up a few jets and dial her in.
