Greeting to all...
Here's the deal. Is time to build up my brothers HRC kitted 04 450. And just like I did mine... I wanna do everything in one shot. However, unlike mine, i don't want to do the same setup. It should be said that I'm 100 percent happy with my 511 and for no other reason than to try a different style build, am I looking to do it differently. I'm still going venom all the way... I'm just looking to do it differently.
Any suggestions. Keep in mind. We don't jump anything... we stick to the dunes and basic trails. My brother is a 190lb rider.
Here's what I'm thinking.
Venom ported head
Venom exhaust
Venom modded intake
Venom high comp or 12.25 stock bore piston (might be interesting to have a pump gas build)
Leave the 04 HRC cam
Don't know what to do with the carb
Since I have a big bore and a plus 3 crank... I'm trying to stay away from it for now. But, maybe boreing out the stock cylinder and bigger piston is the way to go. I dunno. I looking for your advise. If going with a bigger cylinder and piston will match up the synergistec (sp?) Effect ill go that way.

shoot, if you have the budget, go ahead and do a 97mm 480.... that would go perfectly with everything else you mentioned and that 04 HRC. That would make just the right motor with loads of pull from bottom to top. If you are trying to keep the costs down a touch, there's nothing wrong with what I see listed at all. I agree with keeping it pump gas.... it's a trail/dune bike, no reason to push it.

What if I wasn't trying to keep the costs down? What am I missing or what would u suggest?

i recommend the hotcam stg2 over the hrc cam.i use to have the hrc cam in my 04 450 and since the last rebuild i switched to the stg2 hotcam. imo it pulls harder especially in dunes. more mid -range pull . i would also recommend the fcr carb maybe even bored to a 43mm.

I've seen enough graphs with the stage 2 and the early HRC cam to feel comfortable sticking with the HRC. As far as the 43mm FCR... that's Huge. I only have my 511 at a 42mm. If I remember correctly.. the difference is marginal whereas the cost is significant. But, I realize I said cost isn't a factor... and its not really, but I still don't see the benefit of a 43 on a 480. But ill ask john when I order the parts...

yea i dont have my fcr carb bored yet but i was reading one of the (pinned topics)under venom performance where mixxer was building a 480 for someone and the 43mm added like 3.5hp on top end past 6000rpm and up.

vince, look at my sig.
i would do everything you mentioned and follow my and scotts(sredish) advice. go 480 pump gas.
i am roughly same size as your bro. mine hauls ass with me on it. you can rev the hell out of it, or lug it and run a gear high. you cant kill it. and is fast either way. just pull in your local petroleum carrier and fill her up. sure is easy.
i run a +5 on mine as well. it would seem like even more of a handful with a stock swinger on it.
the extra revs of the dyna box are really nice. especially with the hrc cam. you'll still be making power at the limiter like i was. the extra revs let you get that extra power. with the dyna, my quad runs 8 mph faster. which means when the other guy is shifting, im going faster and walking away.
sounds like a fun build.
im trying to get my old man to build one. would be fun for me because he has the money that i dont. spending his on go fast stuff would be fun. and i get to put it all together. lol

plus 5...WTF? do u ride in a straight line or what?. where do u ride? i cant imagine running a plus 5 in the dunes.... how would u turn? i have an 07 511 and im only considering a plus 2. dammmit.
thanks for your reply. i think ill go with the 97mm 480 12.25. itll be a nice gain from where its at now. ill go with the fcr carb too... but i think a 43 is too big. like i said earlier... ill ask john when i put in the order.

i hillclimb with it. keeping the front down is key. yeah..... i always hope i go in a straight line. lol
it will still stand up on pavement. the power is there. you'll like a 480.
43mm may be big. costs alot more as well. i just bought mine that way. aleady done.

keep the HRC
use a 12:25 97mm piston (480)
ues your 42mm on this one, bore the new one to 43 for you
venom exhaust, intake and port work
no sense in getting another cam when what you have is a great cam. the 480 will really bring on the low and midrange and rev out well with the HRC.
this build would be more than plenty and run hard, yet fun and smooth in the trails.

lol...scott is stealing all my lines..^^^
that is excellent advice..... 480's are tough builds to beat....and they are reasonably priced in the world of ATV money spending... which can get ridiculous....
if you could get an fcr carb and have it bored to 42mm... that would be another ~3+ hp for the 04-05 TRX's.... maybe search the for sale section and ebay for a decent price on an FCR....

what should i be looking for in an ad for a FCR carb?

just a carb, don't need the throttle cable or anything. yfz i believe uses a 39mm, which you can use or a crf uses a 40mm, also good. not really else much to say, just any old FCR.

sounds like a good deal. a bored and ready carb can go for up to $450 and sometimes more.
