Well its time to start my drag build. and thought a fitting name would be "Black Mamba" being that it is a fast, venomous snake, with a black mouth. "The business end" such as my build with a Black head ported by venom, so it just seemed fitting.

As for the build it's self, it will be a no frills drag build. just what it needs to go down the line at the dunes.

so here are some pics of it so far.

The frame, still have a lot of cutting left to do.



The motor, KBR should have it in a few, when they get back. for the bottom end work for the long rod high comp venom 533.


The Cylinder 100mm "Ice cube" , Head ported by mixxer for the 533, and cam cover will be black to, " I think"



stock a-arms that I have trimmed the brake tabs off.


Cold fusion nitrous wet kit


CRF dirt bike seat. my brother will be making be a alum sub-frame and gas tank.

the cooler that I am sending the lower end to KBR in. its a ICE CUBE, just seemed fitting _specialED.gif



more parts should be rolling in any day now and more work will be done when I take the frame, the tank,sub-frame, stem, and swingarm. for mock-up to my dads where the tig welder and plasma are.

Yo your bro has some nice welding skills! Id like to be able to throw down a bead like that. All I can do is nail two pieces of wood together!

Goodluck with it. Take your time BTW. Its getting to be spring soon and you will get antsy trying to finish it off but dont rush it. Not with everything your putting into it. It will be down right sick!

Oh and I love the head BTW....

yea thats part of the reason to take it over to my dads, I think they will keep me in line. lol
that and my brother just got a house 2 miles from my dads, so he might be more apt to work on it after work.

I'm a fan already. I dont know of anybody else with a motor that big in a drag only bike. Cant wait to see it run. Do you have any ET goals for the strip?

the times will depend on your weight, tire and gear. we have a 522 that runs 4.5's shifting on gas. no wheelie bar, naturally aspirated.

as for the over ride trans, I think I will keep it stock for now. I like putt around at the dunes, and form what I have heard, the over ride will not let you do that.

an override tranny is the best way to amke a machine useless for anything else other than a straight drag.....


unless you are running for some pro points series, some people just don't want a quad that they can't back out of the throttle...or downshift ....without risk of blowing the tranny apart like a grenade...... all decelration on an override tranny has to be with the clutch fully disengaged....

My brother and I are building a +6, just a nice simple lite tube style, as for paddles. 22/11x8 9 paddle triple buff haulers on a drag cut rim

Nice to see you moving forward with this Derek. I've been curious if you had completed it or not.... I remember when you got the cube and coated that head and that was a while ago.

yea I had a friends, body dropped blazer in my shop all winter, so I have not had time to work on it, but it should be coming along in the next few months

we race down by the beach here in MI, and the sand is very wet, and we have found that a bit less paddles works good. but we will be doing some testing and see what works best

depending on your weight.....even in wet sand,i would consider 12extreme with the +6 arm. our bike was on a +10 with 22" 14 extremes. it could have had a little more tire thrown at it!

i second that.. i run 12 to 14 paddle extremes on my + 6 arm but the +6 is not enough anymore... going with a +10

on a side note I did get some super lite front wheels and tires last night, along with some nice shinny shocks.

I will get the carb send out as soon as I get time.

UPDATE !!!! thumbsup.gif

Did some cutting and grinding on the frame today.

Started by radiusing the upper front shock mounts, still need to clean it up some



Then cut the front bumper mounts off at a angle and filling them in with sheet metal. still have the bottom to do



Not sure how I want to mount the nitrous tank



I think something like this





Not sure if I should take the top motor mounts off or not. what do you guys think

i think he's doing so much work cutting\sanding\re-welding the frame... that Derek is plannning on turning the entire frame into a stealth nitrous bottle... :)

I would keep the top engine mounts D-BO...... You aint gona lose a race cause you left them on there and I just think vibration isolation is key. Im probably thinking like this because of my old Cr500-TRX250r conversion but I think its something you should keep...

How about a couple smaller nitrous bottles linked up? Easier to hide but more of a pain to refill.

you can also cut out the 2 gussets to where the bridge is where the steering stem bolt up to... also cut out the 2 small bars that come off the main frame that connect to the cross bar that the shock linkage goes to.

just get some big hose clamps and strap it directly to the exhaust....

that way you wont have to worry about low nitrous pressure..... lol.... ;).gif

yes thats the ones i was talkin about... but what kind of whoops? i thought this was gonna be a drag only build? i have alot more than that cut on my frame and i have not had probs yet but i dont just go ridin in the dunes though...

Small update...

Bottom end is on its way to KBR

Piston is on its way from KBR, so I can send the cylinder out.

Chromoly for the swinger is in. " still waiting for the Carrier Housing & Front Pivots"

Frame is almost done. I am not sure what a stock 450 frame weights but mine is in the 20's post-696-1105671348.gif
