I just put in an athena kit, hot cam II, air box removed, and Rossier pipe on a 05 trx450r. Wanted to know if any body had a dyno tune done with these mods? or guesses? Also would this keep up or beat a 07 YfZ 450 with the cam mod.

it should destroy the yfz with the cam mod
what is the displacement of the kit ?490 it should be in the mid -low 50's depending on which dyno you use
scrapper450r
i would guess somewhere in the 45, 46, 47 range.

my guess is you should be able to take the yfz by a little.

"what is the displacement of the kit ?"

04/05 are 480s, the 06+ are 490s

There's no way that combo will make low to mid 50's. I would say somewhere around 45 and a cam modded yfz will be close to that as well. I bet it would be closer than you think. It depends on the rider.

exhaust, intake, cam, and a big bore your saying it'll be around 45? when i asked on here what mine should make i was told around the 45-47 range?? pretty much same build minus a BB??

This is an 05 with an airbox lid pulled, an athena kit, drop in cam and pipe.

Maybe 46 Hp.

Sean, go look up graphs of a 3 mill stroker by chucks450 i think it was. Its an 05 with everything except porting, and its at about 47 HP.

Without good porting, it takes a lot to get into 50s with a 04-05 bike.

Sean i dont even think your build would be mid to low 50s with just a big bore. Maybe scraping 50.

not to mention if he kept that trash athena piston from the kit, its only 10.7:1 compression.
dunner250
Yea, I kept the athena piston. What could I expect to gain in hp for either a ported head or a higher comp piston? I understand that at some point the stock head would limit the hp but not sure at what point?
dunner250
Its a 05 so it is 480.
scrapper450r
i didnt want to sound critical towards your build in my previous post. so i did'nt bring up the athena piston.

but......

a 12:1 and up piston with port work would get you mid 50's.

port work with the athena should net you some low 50's numbers though

the athena cylinder is a good place to start for lots of future up grades

dunner250
So what your saying is that my next mod should be the porting the head? I'm limited on funds, so that would be better then going higher compression on the piston.
MDFMac
porting is a must
QUIKSHRK
i would have ported the head before the big bore. a ported stock bore/stroke will run better than a big bore without porting
dunner250
So with porting I would be in the low 50s hp and walk away for a yfz w/cam mod?
QUIKSHRK
no one can argue that yfz's run well, but if you cant beat that one with basic mods then something is wrong.

my personal opinion of the yfz as far as performance goes it that they are closer to their potential in stock form. you may have to do a few more things to the honda for it to run w/ the yfz but once you get into the motor and start porting, caming, boring, stroking, etc.. its a toss up considering comparable rider weight and skill.

but to answer it again, yes you should beat it. dont concern yourself with the dyno numbers because they very greatly. you may have a low 50hp bike on one dyno and it might make near 60 on a different one.
