i just had a friend do a valve adj. on my 07, they were getting tight, practically would not crank cold. He calls today and gives me crappy news. Its been sitting 3 days and cranks fine but after it geets hot it does not want to start. i am not sure ow long he let it run, but he did not drive it. So he does a leak down, nothing from x-haust or intake but its burbling in crank case. He thinks it need needs a piston kit? losing compression after hot?, would that be loose valves letting compression in crank case or could he be right. I bought it used so i'm not sure how many miles or hours it has and its all stk.
ANY IDEAS?

All rings have some amount of leak down and will "burble" the crankcase. What percentage leakdown does it have? 10-15% would be just fine. It would take over 40-50% to keep the engine from starting. I assume he is using an actual leakdown tester and not just putting air in the cylinder. Also, make sure the cam is out to leak down one of these and the crank is held stationary at TDC.

cool man thanks! i dont think he has the cam out. that holds the valve open im assuming? I will ask about the percentage. What else could be causing the hard start?

You don't HAVE to pull the cam to leak down, only to P&G. You do however have to hold the crank at TDC in the compression stroke so the valves don't open. Pulling the cam for a leak down test wouldn't hurt either, it would eliminate that possibility.

A leakdown test without percentage numbers means absolutely nothing.

I can't list everything that would cause a hot hard start. Did it do it before the valves were relashed? If not, I would be looking really close at the valve adjustment and decompressor settings. Too tight on either one will definitely cause a hard/no start condition.
