I alright Last May I bought a 2007 trx 450ER... I used it about 4 times after that, and the last time being in Septempber.... When I stored it, all I did of let the quad run with the fuel off, until it turned off by itself....

Now I have been trying to start it a couple of times this week, but Im having a problem with with it....I switched my fuel selector to open, and fuel just started draining out. I turned it back to off, and it stopped. Just with that I was able to get the quad started, and when I go to open the furl again on the selector, it shuts off, and fuels starts draining out again. It will also drain out if I select the reserve...

What can this be? A major problem? of is their something I can fix my self? Or do I take it in to the dealer?

dont take it to the stealership
its propably the float in the carb that is stuck
try to tap the bowl (lower portion of the carb) with something lightly or if not open it up and make sure the float can move freealy
if you open it then spray some carb and choke cleaner in there as well to clean it out

Bad gas wont let an engine fire, also if it drains out of the carb all the time youre float is stuck. That on off and reserve just shuts the gas off from the tank to the carb. Also Next time youre store it manually drain the carb and tank completely. Bad gas can ruin the inside of youre tank also

Is the fuel draining out of the carb or the petcock? Based on your description you opened the petcock from Off to On and it started leaking out of the PC and some fuel passed through to the carb that you somewhat drained at the end of the season. If you haven't found the problem yet go grab a PC from Honda.

Also next year if you don't want to remove your carb try using a bottle of Motul Fuel Stabilizer at the start and end of the season. That stuff works great. It runs for about $16.95 CAD w/o tax. They also make Fuel System Cleaner for carbed and fuel injected motors, as well as Engine Clean for use previous to an oil change - both running at the same price.

i did this same thing too, then came on here and asked for help.....just take off your carb then take an air hose to every inch of it. then i usually take and wash the floats too

Problem, SOLVED....Thanks, BUT it will only stay on with the choke on or pulled out...Once I turn it off, the quad will shut off... Then I will try starting it with the choke off, or pushed in, and it will only run over but wont fire..... Now What?

its winter so now youre probably lean and the only way the bike is getting enough fuel is with the choke on. Im assuming its cold where you live.

Sounds to me like you put your carb back together wrong. Get a fische printout from your dealer and ask to talk to a technician if you need to. Did you clean your carb while you had it apart? A common mistake is getting dirt and oils in your carb while working on it without evening noticing. Like Katch26 mentioned, its winter. Don't race to get the job done, you've got no where to ride.

Just reading back on the forums it sounds like it could simply be a gasket or an extremely dirty air filter. While cleaning your air filter use some transmission cleaner such as varsol or K&N Filter Cleaner. Using an air chuck on these filters is pointless and you'll most likely do interior damage. Put some K&N Filtercharger on it once its dry or else some 90 weight gear oil. Do a compression test for yourself too.

Cold, I Dont think is the issue, Im in Southern Arizona.... It was doing this before I took the carb out. What I have noticed, that on the intake air box, there is a opening, or breater on the top part pointing upwards toward the seat. If I put 2 fingers over it restricting the air, it will stay on. But once I remove my hand it will die out.....

sounds like a posible intake leak check all your connection on carb for vacumn leaks

crankcase breather or carb intake? On the R's the crankcase breather filter is the air filter itself.
