I don't mind getting muddy. Just don't like to see my quad all muddy, knowing I have to clean it all up........ lol
Mikey
Who else is up for this? I will be coming home from The Virgin Islands for 12 days at Christmas. It would be cool to have a bunch of Org members riding the Hangover Hare Scramble. I know I wont take first place but Ethan or Tyler has a damn good chance.

he got lucky lol p.gif

I'll give it a shot for sure! I never go into a race with expectations of myself, it just adds unneeded pressure. I just go out and ride as fast as i can!

Well actually I expect myself to not make any mistakes... whistle.gif
Mikey
I know Im not gonna win. Too old and too inexperienced. But, damn it sure is a blast. I do it for me. Just completing a one hour race is satisfaction enough for me.

You guys are in for a treat! Who knows what to expect this year, could be snow again like it was in 2004. Pictures from the race the past few years are here: http://www.jctra.org/gallery/v/hangoverscramble/ Also, you can pre-register for the race. You save 5 bucks and one of the 300 T-shirts is set aside for you. With over 500 racers last year there are not enough shirts to go around. Also, there is a special window for pre-registered racers so your not standing in that very long line to sign up. You can find more info here: http://www.jctra.org (see the top left hand corner). There are some video clips fromt the past couble years on the jctra myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/jctra

Now for you guys that think that there are all these pro racers and you will not place,,, could be but my buddy that has never raced took first place in the utility quad class last year. Anything goes at the HO,, everyone has a chance for glory.

I'll be there, I gota set up the course;) Protect your radiators. They can quickly get clogged with mud. Duct tape and cardboard can save a lot of pain.

I have got to go and watch this race, no way in hell would I even try it, muddy wet and cold does not appeal to me, I can only hope to see two dudes brawling like the ones in the video, I laughed my ass off, nothing short of whiteout conditions will keep me away, Steve

How about some stats for ya:)

Performance quad class 1 Jan 2008, 106 racers on the line, 21 did not finish the one hour race.

At the pace I see for 2009 the performance quad class is going to be even bigger. All quads are in the same moto. Performance Quads will line up first and be off the line first, Utility Quads will line up second and start after Performabce Quad. Women's Quad will be last off the line. The ladies always have a good time so all the ladies out there, don't think the guys get to have all the fun. Below are a couple of pics of my wife: first one in 06 at Longview (mudfest) on a quad, the next My wife and I at the 2007 HO.

it is dead engine starts correct?
Joe McLaughlin
Often it is a dead engine start but that is up to Scott. He is starting the motos and may mix it up? On a related note I just drove up to teh track today. Washougal River road is clear all the way. The side road going into the track is still packed snow but there is a CAT up ther plowing snow and it is raining. We will be up there Sunday runnig CATs to clear a path for the race if needed.

Joe McLaughlin
Sun Dec 28 Rain 44° 38° 70%
Mon Dec 29 Rain 41° 37° 100%
Tue Dec 30 Showers 40° 36° 40%
Wed Dec 31 Showers 41° 38° 50%
Thu Jan 1 Showers 39° 29° 40%

It is a good thing we have rain in the forecast. I went up today to check things out and the road is clear all the way up until you turn off Borin road. I chained up 4 tires to get in. At the moment the snow is crazy but with all the rain and warm temps it should be all but gone come race day, I hope. We will be up there tomorrow running heavy equipment to clear the road and parking areas as well as clear a course.

We set up a big chunk of the course yesterday. We pulled out two bulldozers to clear snow off the course. Also, the road and parking lot are clear. I'll be up there tomorrow for a half day and all day the next to polish up the setup.

I spent half a day up there today. The melt off has slowed so I am betting we will still have snow on race day. I rode the course today on a quad without getting stuck. Momentum will be your best friend come race day.

I can not think of worse conditions to race in. Hats off to all the hard core racers that hit the course today. I am not sure if there is a more difficult race in the northwest than that

Sorry for the delay prior to the quad moto. I could not run the two wheel drive quads up the hill with 3 foot ruts. Every single one of them would have been stuck. The re-route that I choose was not the best but it was all I could do with the time I had. I have never seen a race chew up a course so fast.

The last moto (expert class) showed me some of the best skill I have ever seen in person. They plowed through the full course with 3 foot ruts and made it look easy. Despite the nasty weather we had one hell of a Hangover Scramble!
A hot shower and meal was never so good.

Here are the few pictures I took. I just got a new camera and had no desire to get it wet so I got a few on top of the tower zoomed way in on most.

Sorry I did not get any pics of the quad race, I was super bust getting the course re-routed. Watching all the quads rip through the tunnel was insane.
