i just brought the rev box and the hotcam, havnt put them in yet because a few people are saying i will need 2 change the valve springs, will i??? i am a bit lost so if some1 could steer me in the right way it would help heaps :)
Well, you'd probably get more responses in the regular engine forum instead of the Engine Tech FAQ section, but I'll try and answer your questions...
"Normally" you should run better valvesprings with the added rpm rev limiter that the dynatek cdi uses (except for the stock ignition curve setting on the programmable version).
But, since the Hot Cams Stage 1 is a low to mid range based cam, you'll probably be out of the usable rpm range that this cam was designed for well before 9800 rpm's which is what the stock rev limiter is set at. Sooo, in this application, I would say you would be fine with the stock valvesprings. I would suggest changing them though at least once a year for piece of mind, and the fact that they are relatively inexpensive...
If you decide to step up to more of a mid to high end based cam in the future though, I would suggest upgrading to better valvesprings.
I guess what I'm saying is that using the dynatek ignition in conjunction with the Stage 1 Hot Cams isn't gaining you much in my opinion... jumping up to the Hot Cams Stage 2 or 3, or even the '04-'05 HRC cam is where the added rpm's of the dynatek rev limiter will be more useful. It's at this point I would recommend the better springs.
