He might be set on these mods, but I would approach modding a pump-gas LTZ differently. The carbed models have a horrible CV carb, that needs replacing immediately. They need an FCR on there. I put a $100 YZ250F 37mm FCR on my old Z400 (YFZ 39mm's work great too), trashed the airbox completely, and bolted up a home-made "ESR-type" filter with outerwear. Regear it, dynotune it, throw on a set of 6-paddle haulers or Brats... you'd be surprised how well this set up runs.

You can also remove the middle-layer of the stock head gasket, leave stock piston in there, and add a cheap hotcam intake cam (stock exhaust cam), and get even more cheap pump-gas performance.

thanks, really appreciate it.

i didnt know the z came with two cams, is it better to replace both of them?

yeah its not unicam I would do both! there was an older style of hotcams for it that were better than the current ones(do not rember why). check out z400central and mabey you can pick up a used set cheap, if your friend is cool with that. Also I would recomed the carb thing like mentioned above! There was also a drz base gasket that bumped up the compression a little.

yep... 2 cams.

the hotams set is meant to work together... and has an auto decomp setup.... the old style hotcams (that were discontinued 2-3 years ago) did not have the auto decomp

They are not as aggressive as the old style cam. They work a little better than stock. You notice a difference with them put in but its not huge.
