I got my trx two days ago and decided to try doing stoppies. I got pretty good pretty quick and cocky pretty quick as well. On one of them my little brother (on my friends z400) was closer to me than I thought and he actualy drove under my right rear wheel. Three attempts l8r I had my trx stalled completely on the front wheels for about 5 seconds and over my bike went right on top of me.

This bike has the best brakes in the industry, and when your doing stoppies it can get away from ya real quick.
were you doing it in the dirt or on the road?
ibewiggin
I was doing it in my friends cow pasture. blink.gif

Cool, I've never really had the balls to try a stoppie, I'd rather wheelie or jump then face plant. Though when I have tried I usually over-did it and landed flat on my face.
fast
are you guys using first gear to do stoppies
Jonesy
i can do them on my friends kfx, but not very well. You have to be going faster than you would think to do a stoppie. I'm usually in 2nd when i hit the front brakes, it basically just lifts the rear end up when i come to a stop. i haven't worked my way up to doing a rolling stoppie yet.
fast
so you do it in 2nd gear and just hammer the front brakes the rear end will come up a little
Schmitthead
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,
Unless you want to eat some dirt or asphalt. I am really not that good at them but i would suggest starting off slow, 5, 8, 10 mph. start of in a straight line, pull in the clutch, coast a little bit, get a good stance, arms tight, then apply the brake, not super hard at first. gradually apply more brake until your rear end is in the air, from there its up to you.

no go ahead and do it this way....thats the fastest way to learn.....lol

Just kidding, dont try it.
Jibrille
Yeah, someone should make a video on how to do stoppies, lol. <_<
Jonesy
Sorry for the bad explanation before. So let me try this again.

Learning to do stoppies is similar to learning how to do wheelies. You start out small by just getting the front wheels a little bit above the ground, then work your way up. Like wheelies you have to figure out where the balance point is and how the quad feels when it is there. Start out going slow half throttle in first and grab the front brakes until you feel the rear end really lighten up. you prolly won't have enough momentum to go completely over the bars until you are like 3/4 throttle in 2nd or more. I move my butt as far forward as i can w/o interfering with the controls and then pull the clutch in, i grab as much of the front brakes as i feel comfortable with and use a little body english to help out the process. By sitting as far forward as i can it gives me the ability to move back quickly to bring the backend down if i get the back end to high. It is all in the practice and being confortable with your bike. the only problem is that you don't have a grab bar to save you if you go over. Once you figure out the balance point and such you will be surprised at how vertical the bike is when doing a stoppie.

If any of this unclear, ignorant, not right, etc... please let me know, so i can correct or delete this post.

Thanks

Seems about right, I'll have to start trying stoppies this year.

The R's brakes are best in the busisness. Team Duncan Racing put a set of steel braded lines on the TRX and thier riders HATED them and requested that the stock units be put back on. on of my friends is matting the R's system to his hybrid they are that good.
RedRocket
I read about that Duncan steel-braided setup as well, apparently not as effective as the stock setup. My question is, what to run if you get wider a-arms?! I wouldn't want to switch to steel-braided aftermarket as the expense of brake feel. I also doubt Honda will sell and extended line set...

Any ideas? Maybe just different steel-braided lines are the answer.

nope the stock lines have enough slack in them to fit with acout 2 inches to spare on my long travel jb a arms.

i think i'll just jam on the brakes in 2nd gear when i get my quad i'll let someone video tape it and i'll post it on the site

Good luck, and make sure you get that on camera!! Haha...please jump off the quad and don't just let the damn thing land on ya, or you may become another statistic for the people that hate quads... wink.gif
fast
i'll wear gear and tri to roll it out i can do them on a bike.

I liek going from a Stoppie And the minute the rear touches down do a wheelie, my friends thot it was crazy kelw, cuz i made it go straight up on the nose almost and same on the rear, the girls liked it to wink.gif
Jonesy
seems like when i'm just screwing off everything goes good, but the minute i try to show off for someone i always end up dumping it. <_<
Trx480Ryan
Yea, well practice makes perfect, thing is i was doing this playing around on a highway, good thing the po pos didnt pass, i did a smoke show, wheelie show, and then some stoppies, haha friends loved it, i had a good time doing it, and brought ppl for a couple rides, it was all fun, i rode 7 hours that day, it was kewl, i even showed a guy on a dirt biek the other day how to hit the gad at a track down the road that a guy owns, i really like this quad, no offence, but i drove a 400 ex the other day on the track, and i thot it was crap compared to the 450, but before, i used to love the 400, but now in stock form compared to the new 450, well i basicly hate it, lol not that its a bad bike thats just how different it is to the 450 stock for stock.
