John, how's the 300x doing? Oh, BTW, did you ever get a dyno read out on the 600? Still waiting......................

If this build transpires, I say 74-78 hp and around 50ft lbs. torque.
Just out of curiosity, how far along is the build?

My last project I did finish ! As most know custom componants take longer then of the shelf stuff so stay tuned !!! Waiting on the piston and a few things for the crank ! Thanks for the comment .I guesss I should build a 501 or something that way I can have it done in a record time ! I might just attempt a stock bore ,stock stroke build maybe this winter ? John-
Please dont take this the wrong way: I admire your desire to push the envelope on engine building but I have a few questions for you. Why would you continue to invest money in one off combos when you can make 70+ with a 545cc motor with a shelf 208 cam. Why not beat up a 545-550 combo until you reach that elusive 70/50 mark? With the money that you spend on new "innovative" motors/combos that same money could be spent perfecting a combo thats been proven to work. I would think something that big would fight itself more than being productive.
Not looking to start a war, would just like to see where you coming from if I may.

Well it seems to me I saw a 500cc all bore '04 TRX that Morgan did that made 64/40. And that was all bore. Maybe that was all the bells and whistles, maybe there's more in there.
But I do know with a few more cc's and the added torque of a stroker crank.........................
I don't know that it's impossible.

Damn you guys are negative.....
At least he puts fourth the effort to build things that no one else does.
I hate doing this BUT..... I kinda agree with Morgan........ god that didnt feel right.....
I think John should go after some power on an engine a little smaller. Stick all the custom stuff you want in there but on a little smaller of a foundation. A 540-570cc....which really isnt by any means a small engine.
It would just be a more acheivable goal. Still, goodluck with the build John.

Aug 17 2008, 05:41 PM
70/50 is VERY attainable. Like I said, beat up a combo for a few months and see where you get. Bret and I beat up his black bike (544) like no other, and we eventually got there, and farther actually. NA on Alcohol. Lots of time involved making sure everything is where it needs to be, several heads, etc etc. You CAN get there. Anyone can. Hell, Ive got an 06 stockbore that lays down high 60s. All it takes is time and more time to do it right.
A fellow out of NM bought the black bike a month or so back, had to have it, and Bret wanted to move onto a different project. So now he has a Puma 250R.

I know you not trying to start a conflict with this ! I build these builds for fun and like to acheive alot of torque early ! Yes I believe I can get a stock bore motor to put out around 65 hp but thats at peak rpm!! The big engines make more power sooner in the rpm range as well as some more peak along with great torque!!! I will work on a small displacement engine soon to compare with other similar builds !!!! What size would anyone suggest I try? 450 stock bore?480,501,511,525,530,544,550 or What? After this build I am up for any suggestions ! John!!!!

j&j i dont think anyone has any problems with you pushing the size limits with these motors. the problem people have is that you start threads wanting guesses on power a year before the build will be done, as the case with the 12mill.
the way i took what morgan said (sence the topic here is power output) was why not get some real good power out of a smaller 5?? motor that will last, rather then look for huge numbers that last 5 minutes.
sorry, im not going to play your guessing game, im to old to wait a year to find out the answer.

But Knowpig why you beating him up when you have to have all the custom parts made and try different combos and what makes power this takes time and allot of tuning to get it right. Some times they just don't work out and guess what money spent and back to the drawing board.I give john all the credit in the world for trying to keep up with the big DS and Raptor motors. Huh?
Well, this thread is a couple weeks old, so I went back and re-read my posts.
I didn't think I was too terribly hard on the guy. My ONLY point being...............J&J makes a post like this and WEEKS AND WEEKS will go by before we see a graph (if ever).
I can fully appreciate what the man is doing. I think it's awesome.
But if you're going to post a "what will it do" then it needs to "do".
It seems like we have a case of...................pre-mature speculation.
