DR.D slip on. Lets start off with what I have done to my bike. I have the hrc cam, k&n, jetted at 185 with the hrc clip second notch from the bottom, 18 inch holeshot rears, and 14t sprocket that I changed from a 13t. No real motor done other than that. Before I bought this slip-on I was a little skeptical of how it would perform for being JUST a slip-on. I really didn’t think it would make a noticeable difference from the hrc end cap.

I went to put it on and it bolted up perfect with no bending or torqueing having to be done. I started it up and was very pleased with the way it sounds. Not too loud but has that aggressive 4-stroke sound that I was looking for.

I went out to ride with it for the first time. I started it up and let it worm up a little before I went ripping up the dirt. First time I took it out I noticed it had made a noticeable difference over my previous setup. I wasn’t to sure if it was the 14t or the dr.d until I started working on starts. I really adds to the low end of the motor and bursts out of the hole a lot better. So I figured it had to be the slip-on. I could ride wheelies with better ease and rip out of corners with the extra torque it added. I got off it and let a few friends ride it to see their thoughts on it. They all said it added a noticeable difference and they were all very impressed with what it added to the machine. One friend that is very good at wheelies could ride 5th gear wheelies on it that he couldn’t ride on it before.

Now to the race test. I lined up with two buddies, one on a 400ex and one on an rm125. We both let the 400 get about a 2 second head start and then started our race. I pulled the rm out of the hole and caught the 400 as I was shifting into 3rd passing him by the time I hit 4th leaving both of them behind. The rm gave up after I passed the 400. There is a definite gain in the top end as well.

DR.D has definitely proven them selves with this slip-on for the TRX. I have heard it is the best pipe to buy for a stock motor so it being “JUST” a slip-on should be thrown out the window. I would for sure buy another one of these for a bike if I had to do it over again. Not to mention you can pick one of these up for a cheap price from wppracing, one of the site sponsors.

I also have a 13:1 je piston that will be going in shortly, and i will add to the review after racing Dans 500cc kgb motor. Just to see how it holds up against a more powerfull quad.

w/ all the reported low end, is this one that would be better served short shifting? I am replacing the HRC end cap from uncorking R on a budget. Have done all but the cam (for now). when and if I get a cam it will be mostly mid range.
Thanks in advance

not sure i understood your question right but i think your asking if you should short shift with it? in that case no, it helps with the power all the way through. i think a little more through the mid range but that could be due to the hrc cam combo. your shifts might be a little shorter than normal but not too bad. let it build all the power it can through the mid range before shifting.

i hope that helps.

Glad to hear you like the pipe! I as well have a Dr.D and absolutely love it. I know what you mean by the torque surprsing you. It definately helped a ton on bottom and I feel completely regained any that was lost with the HRC cam. Doug Dubach knows his stuff!

I also have this slip-on. It came with the bike so I don't really have a comparison to stock, but it runs great after dialing in the jetting. Overall, I think it's a little on the loudish side, but the tone is good, and I'm happy with it in general.

Glad you like the pipe. Its a good name pipe, but not very common with the Honda crowd. I've always liked them.

I cant see any of your pics btw.
