Hey guys, im new to the fourms although it looks like a superb place. I have been riding quads for some time now and i am thinking about getting a new one i have narrowed it down to these 450's: honda TRX/KFX/YFZ(least likely). And i was really concidering a TRX i have a buddy with a 400R and its really dependable and takes a beating. I wanted to know what a TRX 450R has to offer over the others i was hoping you guys can set me up with some facts. So i mainly ride trails(mostly worn down not really rocky) and flats(these are in a wooded area in Southern Massachusetts) so i want to know if a TRX could be a good choice for my riding conditions and if so what immediate parts would you recomend after purchase? Hope you guys can help.
P.S my salary is only about 7500$ since im only 17(18 next month)
how important is the year on quads? i see alot of people with 3-4 year old quads ripping
(Sorry for all these questions....)
-Thanks!

for what your riding is I would go with the honda(but then again i am biased). VERY dependable bikes all hondas are. that's why my last 3 bikes have been honda.
as for parts do suspension first and since it sounds like you don't wanna spend a whole lot of money go with gthunder they rebuild your oem shocks and make them amazing...motor hott cam stage 1 0r 2 i'm not sure how much torque / hp you want so, the basics filter (fuel customs racing) or k&N is what i'd go with. then exhaust probably venom or dasa, esr all really good pipes, just kinda pricey. and maybe some port and polish from venom/kbr

I would go with the trx also, the only reason I would run the kfx is if you had to have reverse
get the 06 or newer 450r and add the hrc kit (300 bucks) it will still be reliable and its all honda parts (wont void waranty)
I would pick the yfz over the kfx

Your not gonna find a cheap used kfx that's for sure. They are over priced to begin with and they are brand new. I'd go trx or yfz. You can find 04-05 trx's for 3000 and under anymore. Most of the time I find trx's cheaper than yfz but I've seen some cheap yfz too.
You can't go wrong with honda or yamaha. There are the forunners in almost every class.

deff go wit the trx. hondas in my opinion r the most reliable. im 18 too and just bought my 05 450r 2day. its more of a comfortable ride than the yfz wit jus about equal power. i bought mine for trail riding and love it so far. ive had a honda recon for 8 years now n is still running strong wit no problems. go with the honda hands down.

here's mine its an 05, the years not a big difference the 04-05 make more power with mods but the 06-09 make more power stock, the front ends are supposed to be better on 04-05 and the newer ones have a little longer swinger, but it's not a big deal if your going to be trail riding there AWESOME quads but that's the anwser your going to get from everyone, just take care of it. oil, filter, oil filter, just watch them 3 things.

A few good things about the 450r, most things covered already but I will throw 2 cents in. Yet you might want to ride all of them or at least sit on them all to see what fits you.
Good frame & suspension for hitting the trails, should keep you happy until you want to do any mods, then you can sell your front shocks to your buddy for his 400 lol
Common reliable used quads out there. plenty with some mods already done.
Common parts & wheels
pretty easy on the maint, easy chain adjust etc..
04 05 smooth power, nice trail quad, responds good to mods & can become a great mx/xc whatever quad. The power is very good & does not feel as much, but in the end tires you less & gets the power to the ground.
06+ better choice if you want electric start & to leave near stock & have good power.
Main engine item to watch is the intake valves, like any motor with titanium valves.
Not the most durable carrier bearings so watch them also.
