Hey I have a honda 400ex 2002 yosh pipe jetted hole in air box stock tires. And my friend is getting a 2006 700 raptor stock. I was wondering if we raced what would the outcome would be? Like who gots more top end low end mid end who does this better and so on and so forth. Ty

I would just sit that one out. hehe Or invest in some really nice goggles!
h0nda450mainiac
well if he's extremely bad at riding and maybe a miss shift of two it can be done....with my 400ex i beat a banshee up sand mountain.......he was like 8 and should never ride a quad again
SenorSucio07
screw it... i'll take it.... as much as it hurts me to admit cuz i too am a 400ex owner. i say with much humility and respect. don't put any money on it... unless you hate money
prlandry
you're going to get wasted!... whistle.gif
poorboy
If he has 200 pounds on you it might work. TIme to upgrade so you can waste the rappy.

Hey I see that ur not the only 400ex owner on this 450r site lol happy 2 know. So I see that I am going 2 get smoked lol. In your oppinion what are some things that I should upgrade on my bike that will make a big enough diff? ty
jimmy450r
cam, pipe, port-polish, high comp piston, carb, rev box

the 700 raptors (even stock) run really good

well actually i own both. i say slap a 440 kit and a good cam. definately up the compression.
SenorSucio07
imho i say looks for a used 06 450 engine and make it a hybrid. it wouls probobly be cheaper than modding out the 400.
480 Bandit
didnt you say you only had this 400EX for like 1 week and 1/2 somwhere? what bikes did you have previously?

Best bang for the buck: Hotcam stage 2, remove choke + 42 pilot + 155+/- main, hrc muffler endcap from a 450r (yes it bolts on). I hear yfz 450 front shocks bolt on and keep the stock ride-height. Should try it... if you need more hp after this, try a 11-1 426 kit.

As for racing a 700? Yes goggles would be a good investment.

And if your racing on gravel you will definatly need the windshield upgrade thumbup.gif haha. Trying to make a 400ex faster then a Raptor 700 is probably more work then its worth...just enjoy what you have or sell it and get something faster! It'd take quite a bit of money just to catch up to a stock raptor and it'd only cost him a few hundred to blow you away again after spending all that coin.
hondaman01
i actually seen a couple 400ex's beat a few 700 raptors it is possible but most likely not
TCSBomber450R
you gotta think, stock to stock a 450r adn craptor 700 are almost even, so your pretty much trying to make a 400ex run with a 450r if that puts it into porportion a little better fro you lol, i spent a lot of hard work and investment into my 400 to make it fast and it still sucked, it now has a 426 11.5.1, ported head, hc stage 2, hmf full exhaust re worked carb, and a k&n intake, it will run with a minor build craptor 660, it is prolly a 2-3 bike length between the 700 and this 400ex, save you money and build a hybrid or jsut buy a damn 450, you knwo you will sooner or later whenhas there been a better time, sell that 400ex adn save a bit and buy a low hour 450r
darmo21
I would put your 400ex on Craigslist and use the money for all these after market parts and buy a 450. I used to have a Yammy Warrior 350, and wanted to get my quad to go fast, My bro said it was not worth it and he is right. Its all old technology, Buying my raptor and my 450 was the best thing I ever did~!

I do miss my warrior though, I wish I had it to take my friends out with~!
& it was fun in the mud~!
marinenyc
Sorry bro. Dont even consider it.
dr dig-it
the way your 400 sets now,,he will beat u like a ''redheaded stepchild'' but'if you get a 440kit and a stage4 port job from curtis sparks racing'' you will take him to school'' and most of the 450s in this room too'' ive seen them run and wow'' r they fast''
jimmy450r
I seen alot of 440's built up that didnt last, reliability becomes an issue

IMO your better off with a mild 450/700 build retaining reliability than with a 400ex maxed out

no fun when its broke down in the garage and your friends are riding
gocartone
^ Yup the "air cooled reliability" goes out the window when your pushing twice the power she had stock.
joshb
The best upgrade you could do to a 400 ex is sell it and buy a 450 or something
GZ22
ya he will probably murder you in a a drag race. but i used to murder piped 660s when i had my 440ex, and I didnt even have a aftermarket cam...
darmo21
just buy an old ass banshee with pipes, reeds, and a fresh bore. That will do the trick~!

Yeah i wouldnt even put the money into it.. better off buying a 450.. jmo

Just ride until the Raptor breaks down. It WILL happen, haha. Ok, so the 700s are a little better than the 660s, but I have 5 guys I ride with that own Raptors (all 660s but one 700) and NONE are trail ready right now. Everytime we go out something happens to at least one of them. I'm sure Raptor owners will hate my post but I don't care, it's true. Anyways, like everyone said just save up and get a 450 (not a Raptor)!

Become real good friends with the coyote and get the ACME hook up. Strap that rocket to your ass and hope for the best !!!

man trust me its worth it. ive owned 2 different 400exs one maxed and one stock and trust me u will fall in love with the 450. just as much power. throw a curtis sparks in there with a good jet kit and u will be smoking 700s all day. i have only raced one on the road. my buddy lives right up the road and he has an 06 i believe i can get him on tar.

450s the way to go jmo
thanks
