I went riding last weekend in Tahuya (Belfair) and was pissed at all the garbage I saw in the staging areas and the trails. I want to get a working party together and do a clean up effort. I contacted DNR today and am waiting on a reply on the details like the date and if we can get a dumpster or not. I picked up around my camp spot in the Elfendal pass staging area, but I saw tons of garbage everywhere up there. If we do not keep our riding areas clean they are going to shut them down. Let me know if you are interested in lending a hand.
Thanks,
Kelly

I might be in but it depends when...

Just let us know when, and we will try our hardest to get down there to lend a hand.

DNR has not responded to my E-mail. I will try again tomorrow. I want to shoot for a weekend in May or June.

Wow 1 week 3 phone messages and 2 E-mails.....Still no response. I guess DNR could care less about free labor!

I guess they figure that the less cleanup the better...just means that they can close it down sooner.

If it was near Wisco I'd be down. Gotta keep the places we go to clean.

I talked with Sam Jarrett from DNR today. He is going to work with us to get this clean up organized. HE said that DNR gets funds from the correctional facility that is nearby for litter control. Sam's plan is to give us access to a gate in the heart of the Tahuya State forest where we can dump all the trash we gather. Then he is going to have the inmates come and load it up into a dumpster and dispose of it. I told him I wanted to do this in May or June. He is going to talk with Ray Minish who works weekends in the Tahuya Forest to help with our efforts. I will keep you posted!

Sounds great. Just keep us updated. I know there is a few of us here on the ORG that will be there, but when you get a firm date.....maybe make up some flyers and post them at your local stealerships to get the word out to those that would otherwise not know about this event.

I will probably do it... Just as long as I don't have to work.

And I know my friend will be in on it too. We ride there quite a bit.

Well several E-mails and a few phone calls and not a lot of action from DNR. I have a group ride planned for May 29th thru June 1st with my buddies and we are going to bring backpacks and trash bags and do what we can without the support of DNR. You are all more than welcome to come ride with us. I will be parked in the Elfandal Pass staging area late Thursday the 29th in a 30' Raptor Toy Hauler. I plan on doing the trash clean up on Saturday when we get up and motivated. Please plan on hauling a bag or 2 home with you, unless DNR calls me back.
Thanks,
Kelly

great way to be a stand up guy and take care of our areas, wish I was closer so I could help out too

I get tired of hauling trash from local trails also but its a small price to pay for an area to ride

Same problem down here in Oregon at Browns Camp in the Tillamook Forest. Idiots. Really sad. I was there today. Lots of trash. And then theres all the shotgun shells. In illegal areas too. They have a gun range. I guess it dont matter to some people. I have always wanted to ride Tahuya. Let me know when you guys are ridding again. 3 hour drive for me. 189.5 miles according to mapquest.
