Okay, one of my buddys neighbors has a, i believe, 89 LT250. It is stock still but he only wants like 600 bucks for it and it runs!! I dont think i really need another quad but would mind having another. I realy wish it was a Honda 250r but hey whatever. I was considering buying it, tearing it all down because the plastics and everything are very rough and building a dune drag bike. So what i am asking is what problems do these bikes have? I would awesome someone on here has built on up before. What did you think of it? i am still up in the air on it.

No one has an opinion either good or bad on this quad??

my uncle had one when i was 9 or 10 and the thing ripped... i dont know how fast it actually was because i had never ridden anything like that, but i would take him up on the deal for 600 bones especially if it still runs... i would love to find one of those, or a quadzilla
zippy180
the guy said he had a quadzilla and sold it a year ago for 1200 bucks. I wish he still had it cuz i would have it now. I guessit would be a cool project to do. They look rreally simple to work on. I think i can pull the motor without taking the plastics off!

well if your gunna ride it and im mean HARD idk becouse ive read some where with the rear swinger design that they crack or break idk remeber exatally but i rember reading about
zippy180
I was thinking mostly dune bike with it, i would like to get an extended swinger for it so that should fix that problem, or does the swing arm mount break?
crosscountry63
well if its only dragging i prob wouldnt be worried when i get back to my moms house ill check it out if i remeber pm if i dont post and remind me
mccown450
damn, if i knew someone had a quadzilla for 1200 bucks that lived near me, i would be taking out a bank loan before you knew it
zippy180
I know, would have had to empty my checking and some of my savings but i would have picked it up for sure. I guess the guy got them given to him by someone. I wish i was that lucky

That's cheap dude also a 2poke Is easier on the wallet mod n engine wise so if ya had to freshen up the whole engine it would be a fraction of a 4smoke...lol

as soon as I find a decent 250R im buying it and gunna restore it back to original with a little more zip!

sounds like a good deal to me

the 85-86 years are the ones you have to avoid like the plague, lots of problems.
The later years are all the same and are good quads.

THe motor on them is amazingly powerful. Get it and ride the crap out of it! lol
sredish
yea, it's well worth 600. if it's decent shape and runs good, around here it could be worth 1500.
jimmy450r
stock vs stock it was faster than the trx but it dont have the handleing capability

my buddy had an 86 back in the day, pipe/port and haul butt
zippy180
thanks guys, i will get ahold of him on monday and make sure everything is all good. then i guess off the bank I go to get a cashiers check. thanks again

keep us updated so i can be jealous of you

I have one and love it. It still hangs with all the new quads for the most part. Reliability may be an issue for the first few times you ride it, but once you get it lined out they are pretty reliable (especially for a 20 year old quad) Go over to quadracerhq.com if you want to get more info on them. They still have a big following and several companies making aftermarket stuff for them.

Edit to add: Make sure you look real close around the upper shock mounts for cracks and it wouldn't hurt to pull the stator cover off and check for any crank movement unless you plan on completely going through the engine anyways.

I still have to go over and look at it, we have has been so cold and snowed so much that I havent made it over yet. I am going to check it out this weekend if nothing else comes up. I will check the shock mounts but i was hoping to tear the motor apart and bump up the power a bit.

I had one back in the day. It was also an 89. I put a new top end on it, an FMF Gold Series Pipe and silencer and that thing ripped! I would like to find one cheap to rebuild for old times sake. I have a buddy's TRX 250r in the shop thats getting a full resto-mod (ESR 330, Lonestar arm's, frame gusseted and powdered and so on) His dad bought it new in 88. Love the old 2 strokes. No 4 stroke will ever sound as good IMO.
vt700guy
I agree Jaybird. And dollar for dollar a four stroke will never compare power wise. I'm holding out on the 2 strokes as long as possible.

I own an Lt250. If you want to make a nice duner the first thing is aftermarket suspension. THe stock suspension on there just beats the crap out of you, well at least in comparison to the new 4-pokes lol.

And a nice cool head, some porting, and a carb will help out wonders in the power department. I race it against my stock Tri-Z 250 all the time and it would always get smoked(until I got a pipe and K and N for the Lt). But now with the motor work it is right there with it.

Good bikes, just need to throw some technology at them

did you buy it???

I know there are some super fast lt 250s in Oregon that were done by redline racing. Just stick with the 87 and newer motor they have one that 65 rwhp in a custom chassis that will give a good banshee a run for its money. Im talking like a 10 mil cub on methanol not just a hopped up 350. It really hauls the mail

you should see what happens when you swap a built zilla motor into the 250 chasis.. whistle.gif
