my buddy at work has a banshee that he is getting built by a local builder. the builder is telling him that hes gonna get 80 hp but he told me that all the engine internals are going to be rebuilt just stock. hes getting port and polish and some other stuff. He said that his pipes alone are worth 25 hp. Is it really this significant on a banshee? I think that his builder is blowing smoke up his azz when he says 80 hp. what do you guys think? He figures hes gonna spank my venom 14.1 470 with port and polish and hc2 once we both get ours built. basically i wanna know if it is that easy to get 80 hp out of a banshee. I told him hed probably have to put some serious bucks into it to get that high.

Banshee's can make 80hp easily...but I'm not so sure about the 25hp just for pipes claim.

I've been told porting is key on Banshees.

Scott Redish would be one to shine more light on the subject...he's owned a Banshee for a long time.

one of the last times i was out at the dunes there was a guy kicking the sh!t out of everyone with his banshee in the drags. he didn't lose a race all day. AND HE HAD HIS GIRLFRIEND ON THE BACK. it was pretty impressive.

Banshees are no joke, that's for sure.

25hp from pipes is a pipe dream. For the correct application 5-10hp is obtainable.

Maybe he meant 25 hp over stock? 35hp plus 25 is 60, which with the right porting, carbs, and compression can be reached. But not an easy task nonetheless

There are stock cylinder/stroke banshee's making over 100 hp. It's ALL in the porting/carbs/pipes with banshees. Call K&T, A&S, Titan Racing, or RDZ. You'll find out quick how much power can be made.

practically everyone where i drag race at builds nothing but banshees and some of them are WICKED.

oh, that and rigged up CBR1000's and gixxer 1000's with quad swingarms. but i have seen a built banshee absolutely rape an r6 with a quad swingarm.

Yeah, if a guy really knows what he's doing, he could easily get 80hp out of a stock cylinder banshee. You'll have to have the right pipes, usually out of frames, and the right carbs.

Seen a Banshee make 92 "wheel" hp with a 380 cc motor and a good port job!!! Insane! It was fun to ride in an open field but still turned like a shoping cart and jumped like a garbage truck! Lol!!

I regret to inform you that if the guy doing the port work knows what he is doing you are going to be in a world of hurt come race time. On a straight drag race odds are he will smoke you.Throw in a few turns and a few jumps your odds get better. The thing is youre running him on his race. The banshee, when build right is almost untouchable in a drag race, Thats what there built for. I recently sold my shee It had a stock cylinder with a full drag port, cpi pipes, stock carbs, cool head, hot rod crank, and reeds. On hill climb races I only lost to a couple of 4 strokes. One was a honda 580 the other a alchohol yfz not sure how big. The thing is at the end of the day he will probly be tired of riding and you will be wanting more. 4 strokes are awsome bikes and cant be beat for an all around bike. But on a heads up race, its hard to beat the shee. Good luck and ride safe. P.S. He will never get 25hp out of pipes, 5-7 is good with cpi or shearers . Yhe key is maching the pipes to the port work!!!

i would say that would be a matter of who got out of the hole better. but i dunno becuase i have never seen them race stock for stock.

Shouldn't sweat stock bore and stock stroke banshee's too much, they can make power sometimes, but rarely does one see those running around.

It's when they start getting stroked is when they are nasty

MY brother-in-law has a stock stroke, stock bore 350 with stock carbs and it runs a 4.2 at the track. The key is it has a triple port on the exhaust side of the cylinder. Here in Oregon we have lots of stock stroke and bore banshees that rip. Redline , twister, and white knuckle racing all build some very fast 350s. IM not trying to start anything, just saying that we drag race all the time and ive got my ass handed to me many of times by stock stroke bikes. I luv my 450 , but drag racing its hard to beat the banshees.

70hp is not too awful hard out of a 'properly' built stock bore/stroke banshee. you can make a stock bore/stroke banshee run hard but you have to build them right and it will be a peaky motor and just throwing parts and pipes at it's not going to do it. the right parts are important and to seal the deal, you have to have the right porting, that's key.

I didn't see this thread until now. I had a banshee for many years and have done quite a bit of work on them. I did in fact have mine dyno'd when it was a stock bore/stroke, 34mm carbs, toomey T5's, and ported. It came in at 77 hp with that build. Still have the graphs here and that was from 2003. After that, I spent some $$$ and did a 4mil cheetah build on alcohol with cpi pipes. That one dyno'd a little higher

I would say this could be a pretty good race even if he does get close to 80hp. Banshee's dyno much differently than 450's do. I saw a bone stock banshee with pipes/jetted hit 51hp and we all know that our 450's would spank a piped banshee. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this.

well i know that mine is getting put together soon (the head, cylinder and piston are in the mail right now on their way to me) so i hope he gets his but in gear and gets his built so we can have a race this season. the snows not off the ground till the end of march anyway though.

I go ride in a place called la belles here in fl and that is freakin banshee kingdom .... banshee's all day every day!!! ... i wish my 450 could keep up with a banshee ... 2 of my friends i go ride with have insanely fast banshees .... one is doing 115 - 118 MPH and the other about 130 MPH ... I would love to own a banshee ... to be honest if i had known more about quads when i bought my honda i would hav bought a banshee since the yamaha dealer ship down here still has them on the showroom floor ... one day if i get some extra cash i'll own one

just put a shee together had 61 hp and 41 ft at the tires on pump gas.. cpi in frame that was just a trail dune port.. you can get big ponies out of the shee if it is built right.. the shee was set up for trail riding.. dyno sheet is under banshee porting at www.gassrx.com you should still take him out of the hole.. if he is not stretch you will smoke him.. can get the power to the ground on the shee with out lifting up.. 80hp is not that hard to hit but the motor will be peaky.. suck in tight areas.. dunes you will hate him if he has haulers on

Yeah it is really easy to get 80hp out of that.....i have a little over a hundred 65mm bore and stock stroke....it is a ported cub....alot of setup comes into play....i can smoke almost every 4-10mm on the dunes

I have a problem with my banshee. It leaks gas and i was wondering if anyone would happen to know why. Before i when i shut my bike off it would leak gas. I tried shutting my gas off but unfortunately there was no success.

I sold my bansheee to buy my 450r . I was kinda disappointd at first but when i installed my HRC kit everything changed . I went to sandlakes a few weeks ago and spanked a couple banshee's one was completely stock the other was lightly modded looked like some pipes and jets none the less down with the banshee

i even beat them by a couple of lengths

i know its an old post but did you ever get to race last season? i have a triple ported stoke stroke shee that runs like a raped ape and have yet to loose to a 4 stroke. even some big stroker motors. banshee's live off of port work. tons of big builders doing big things for banshee's. and no where near the price of a 4poke.

after having 8 banshee's built by everybody out there'' i can tell you 80hp is not to far off 4 stock bore and stroke'''' if the builder no's what he's doing. a full stage4 raceport,prolight pistons,a set of 35mm carbs, and a little timing in it. it could be close to the 80hp mark.my last banshee would flat out smoke my cr500 dirtbike'' street,dirt,sand, it would kill it. butt'' sence im going to turn 40 in sep, the smooth ride of my 450 is my cup of tea''''

Stock stroke. Stock bore. Good set of pipes. Good port job and if the port timing is right. Timing at 4*.
That motor could make around 65-70hp on gas.
Around 80hp on alky.
