I have both a wooden ramp and metal ramps, i read in past threads that wood ramps cost more or they are not as good...
this is all downright nonsense. in late 2004 after watching too many vids i built a 10 ft wooden ramp that we're still hucking tricks off.
the truth is we built it out of wood because at the time no one had access to a welder and we were itching to go big. Now we have both wood and metal and no one complains. I've actually seen more sh@#$ go down on my wooden ramp than the steal ramp. Here are some old pics of the wood job. it's easy to build and even easier to hit.
seriously get to it.... a couple people throw in some money...1 saw some screws and 300 bucks later you have yourself a ramp..

i believe it was right in the 350 dollar range
its ten feet high and 16 feet long
3/4 inch plywood
2x4 ribs
built and bent just like a skateramp
i made the curve with a 24 foot peice of thin trim molding, just bend it till your curve is just how you want and pencil it up.

Oh yeah and the day we built the landing we drove up to the top of the ramp with a bobcat just for laughs and it held up to it no prob....

i like the black plastic with the red front sides.... looks good with the rims.

ever have any slipage on that plywood compared to steel mesh?......(not bashing) just saying there is no way that could out perform a compitition ramp
iceracer23
sweet!! we have to steel ramps out at our practice track, there both 8ft tall and around 22ft long and 8 feet wide but one has a 40 degree pitch that shoots you up in the sky and the other one is only 33 degree pitch that isnt as crazy...
Cherney22
sweet, how far apart do u have it? and how big is the landing?
iceracer23
the 33 degreed pitch was at like 15 feet for a while and the 40 degreed pitch one was at 65 feet from top of the take off to the down side where you land. the landing is about 10 or 11 feet tall 15 or so wide and 25 to 30 long i would have to say...

here are a bunch of pics of the track and freestyle ramp!

if i tried to build something like this, i would end up like the guy did on the movie hot rod, when he goes straight through the ramp haha

I personally would never hit a wooden ramp. Yeah, I have no doubt there are some great wood ramps out there, with no problems yet. but eventually one time the material is going to stress to the point when the ramp can break during a hit. I just like the piece of mind hitting a metal ramp.

bah... your not living life on the edge then tongue.gif... ive built a wooden ramp myself... and if its done right, it will hold up to alot
