I am looking into getting a New Cam for my 2007 TRX450R I am not sure which way to go. Does the HRC Cam offer more all around power increase (low to mid then mid to high all around increase) or does the HotCam offer more all around increase or is the HotCam Stage 1 more low to mid and the HotCam stage 2 more mid to high. If everyone had a choice, what CAM would they go with for dunes (comp hill & riding the bowls) and desert riding (Arizona)?????

The HRC cam is a great mx cam and does a good job of making power everywhere, with more emphasis on low and mid. It still has decent top, but if you do a little search for OTTSIXX in the dyno area and go back to last year, you will find dyno testing of a basically stock motor with different cams, including the HRC versus HC2. The HC2 outperformed the HRC just about everywhere by a little bit with more mid and mid/top.

The HC2 will also work very well with additional mods like a high comp piston and porting.

It was my choice for a dune/desert cam until just recently when I built up my 511.

The benefit of going HRC is the package deal in the HRC kit. It's a quick and reliable way to have a solid 46 hp motor. With the HC2, you wil need to buy an HRC header pipe and a slip-on or a full pipe to get the same or more power than the HRC kit. The HRC kit is no slouch.

Instead of deciding your mod by asking which cam, you should ask yourself how much you want to spend. $300 for the HRC kit, or $500 - $600 for the HC2 and a full exhaust, + jetting....

Thanks I needed that info but here is my story I bought the HRC Kit installed everything except the HRC Cam I placed it in my truck because in a few days it was to be installed but that night someone broke into my truck and stole all my riding gear and the HRC cam. So at this point I don't knnow if I should buy the HRC kit again just for the CAM and just sell the rest of the kit on Ebay or should I just buy another CAM weather it be the HotCam Stage 2 or a ESR Cam or a Rossie 943 Web Cam (claim 50hp) or what every I just want to get the best bang for my buck sense I am buy the damn thing twice, Thanks for you input.

Chuck is right, and .....there are two HRC cams....

04/05 HRC is top end biased, loved by some
06/07 HRC is low mid, kinda more like the HC2 or early CRF cams.....

04/05 HRC top end biased (but will work in any year)
06/07 HRC is low mid (but will work in any year)
HC1 low end
HC2 better low and mid than the HRC but not as much on the very top
HC3 3 big bore stroker, more top end than HC2
Web 943- good power everywhere and very close the HC2, but higher overall horsepwer...on Brians build it slightly edged the HC2
Web 208- nasty everywhere but could be noisier and hard on valvetrain, not a drop in either , needs to be degreed, oversized buckets are a good idea and used by some
Web Mysto "a mystery as to which quad it will work in" -Mixxer This is not a drop in either , needs to be degreed, sunken guides, oversized buckets are a good idea and used by some

im trying the HC3 on a stockbore cause im bored lol it seems to work good with the high comp !
I have a mysto coming, to play with in the future on a rainy day... i want to learn how to degrgee them in and this will be my learning tool....

Where you serious about putting an HC3 in a stock bore 450R. I am wondering because I have the 2007 TRX450ER (electricstart) how would the HC3 work for me in my case. I hope I am not asking everyone to many questions but I just want to get the best for my money, Thanks.

If I were you and had a mostlt stock 07, i would get the HC2 or if you are serious, get Web 208 or 493 (requiring shortened guides and HD springs, and this is a serious cam, harder on valvetrain) But If this is your first swap and you dont have a degree kit, and dont want to do any other headwork, get an HC2 ...its a drop in, no problem, makes swapping cams fun, the HC3 is a big bore stroker cam, at the very least you will want a good HIGH comp piston, 14.1 and a good pipe , maybe an intake, to see any gain over the HC2, i put one in because I plan on putting in a +3 crank soon also, and I got a good deal on the cam from ZIPS, and I also saw an oppurtumity to sell my used HC2......i dont expect very much difference, except maybe a little more top end, and a hair loss of some lower end torque...there is always a trade off somewhere..... to me an HC2 is the first step, almost a right of passage for a 450r owner, its tough to beat this cam for the money, some would argue impossible... Site sponsor Venom has new cams out that are a bit more on the exotic, serious side also, dont have much experience with them yet....you may want to ask about them...
Chuck was spot on though about the entire HRC kit...all of those pieces seem to work for the 06/07m crowd..... if you have a full pipe already, and want a cheap option , theres the old HC2 again..... and look around for the green wire mod....extra 1000 rpms

BTW im still learning and Asking questions myself!

After reading the whole thing, just buy a HC2. It's the best cam for the money. You will be very happy with it. BTW - it isn't a slouch on the top end. The head needs porting to exploit the top end that this cam can achieve.

I'm running the HC2 and absolutely love it. Best bang for the buck IMO.
480 Bandit
I got an 05 and will have a race moddified yoshi exhaust on it with no lid, I am almost 100% on a HRC cam, I do mostly fast trail, roads and feilds, but still want low end grunt, will the HRC still have more gains on bottom and top than stock? or wich cam would yous suggest?
mixxer
there are 2 different HRC cams....

RAD HRC= the one that came with the 04-05 HRC kits works well for top end, but is soft on the bottom (even compared to stock) until you make a big bore \stroker

CRF\HRC= the 06 & up style is CRF450R specs..... insane\killer bottom to mid...but not as much top as the early\ rad HRC

hot cams stage 2 & 3 sort of bridge both worlds.....
mixxer
good \ old topic....

the early HRC cam really comes into it's own on big engines.....

also, high velocity porting REALLY makes good use of it's long duration
Henner
I have the HRC cam and kit on my bike with ported head and put down 48 on the dyno. And cam is awesome in the trails at the dunes.
