i like to experiment and try different things ,after putting on a 400ex boot and
a big K&N type filter ,which works extremely well, i happened across a 450r boot
the 450r boot looks to be just the right size ,ya there are some miner issues that
have to be worked out but that go's with out saying.
any one tried this yet ?

it fits , in fact it went on rather easily. its considerably shorter than the 400ex boot that i had on ,
i never cut the 400ex boot to shorten it ,it could of been shortened half to three quarters of an inch but the 450 boot is al most 2 inches shorter as it is .
i did have to redo the filter support bracket , no big deal there i bend metal all the time.

heres the way it looks now

the pic of the support bracket

the way it looked with the 400ex boot

with the 450 boot i used a short piece of 3'' muffler pipe , it ran through the bracket ,in to the boot and filter, then clamped on to the pipe ,simple .

after modding the air box it slips on to act as a splash guard (sorry no pic's)

now to get it back to mixxer for a dyno run

as the major components were free this trick cost me about $20. which included the filter.

i love cheep HP

as a stock unit ? good qustion. the first time it was dynoed i had an power cap on the muffler, a 142.5 main jet , open air box and a k&n filter . it was run at SPS Performance and it put out 30.85 hp at that hp the tq was 22.82 , high tq was 25 .65

after spending the day at silver lake I'd say the 04 450r boot is defiantly better than the 400ex boot .
my best competition of the day was a ltz 434 ,I'd win he'd win it all depended on who got the hole shot.
ran one of them 525 outlaw's beat him by 5 , several times ,............... then it broke .
i will still have to get back to the dyno to see if my butt dyno is right ,for now the 450r boot stays on.

You say "broke", what broke the 525 or your bike? post-696-1105671076.gif

the outlaw , 3 of the 4 bolts that hold the rear sprocket on came out ,it folded the sprocket in to a thing that looks like a pretzel ,also did some carnage to the boot and a arms.
