Hey guys,

I just bought a used LT80 for my son and I'm having trouble getting it to do anything! I looked at the bike last week, and it had been sitting for some time, unused. The seller was using a battery charger to jump start it, but he would put it on the 50 amp or whatever setting start function on the charger. It did crank over and ran really good, no complaints. Well, I picked up the bike on Saturday expecting I would need to replace the battery, so I bought a Yuasa from the stealer, charged it and put it in. I hit the electric start button, and it did one or 2 half cranks, and that was it. I double checked all connections, they are good. The battery is fully charged. I took the starter motor out, thinking it was fried from all the extra amps going through it. I was not able to get it to do anything with jumper cables off a 12V car battery, or from a charger, so I orderd one online.

The relay clicks when you push the start button, but nothing else. I figured I would run some electrical tests while I'm waiting for the starter. I put the red lead from my multi-meter on the power cable that connects to the starter. I put the black lead on the negative on the battery. I pushed the start button, and the meter did not register the voltage. I am not a mechanic, but have a basic understanding and problem solving skills. Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do? I will have the starter on Wednesday, and will get that installed. I am not extreamly confident that it is the problem though. Help please!!!

thanks,
Brendan

I believe there is a reset button(breaker) in the harness somewhere that trips when to much voltage is run through it. I ran into this problem myself a few years back. Maybe someone else know for sure but. Mine was an 03 model and I know the LT80s have been the same since they built. Good luck!

That is very true, and I stumbled across it accidentally a short wile ago. I reset the breaker, and now I am getting voltage at the starter wire. I suspect that the starter is still a bad unit, so no major loss on the $75 starter. Thanks for the help!
