This for a 2006 Honda TRX450r.

well i was looking for some nice looking, durable skid plates for my 06 450r and Pro Armor skids fit my description.

i ordered them from ronnies atv, nice people on the phone, fast shipping and they were nicely packed.

the pro armor skids came with good mounting hardware ,some anti-vibe stripes, and good easy to follow directions.

here is the body skid plate. it has nice slots so it doesnt hold water, which looks trick and by the top has a engraved pro armor logo. also has a engine oil drain blot access. has a coolant vent hole for the tube that runs out the bottom from the engine. it has 5 mounting locations as see in the picture below. 4 on the sides and one on the top. there almost like a C clamp with a screw that goes threw them that connects to the frame, made of bilet alumminum. it had a good easy fit with a great finish.

heres the under or top side of the Swing arm skid plate. it also has some water drain slots. has full protection for the disc, chain, sprocket, shock linkage. it is a bit thicker than the body skid aswell. it has 6 mounting locations just with a screw. good easy fit and install. it has a great chain slider that works awesome. awesome finish thumbsup.gif

the body skid has these trick two wings on both sides that extend a little to protect the engine and frame from getting any damage from rocks kicking up which is a awesome feature of the skid.

so after about 3 months after my purchase and some hard riding these skids have proved to be great. they have taken a great deal of trail and woods beating. the antivibe and great mouting hardware have kept them solid and they dont rattle. there still in good shape, there are no bends or cracks. never held water when washing, the rear chain slider seems like it hasnt wore a bit, great material there, will last forever.

At $120.00 for the Swing arm skid plate and $100.00 for the body skid plate they have earned my review of them and worth every penny.

I'll 2nd that for the swing-arm plate (dont have the chassis). I just pulled mine off the other day because I've only been riding dunes lately. It is a GREAT shape and I know I put it thru some tough times. Since I put it on I had all but forgotten it was there. VERY high quality and extremely good fit!

ive always ben worried to use aluminum thinking if i hit it hard enogh it would bend and possibly get stuck on my rotor or chain... thats why i stuck with the platic if it gets his it just goes back where it was... so my quetion is have you hit these things REALLY hard and how they withstand the blow... and how think are they??

just so ya know i ride long fast trails that are kinda narrow and sometimes theres a HUGE rock in the way that caint be avoided.. so i need some protection

thanks, JOSH

All I can personally speak for is the Pro Armor Swingarm Skid Plate and you have NOTHING to worry about. I rode mine HARD is some very rocky terain. Absolutely worked it over for several different trips. Then when I geared her into a dune queen I took the plate off assuming to have some serious damage and I was amazed out how great it looked. Worse of the damage was a bend/crease near the slot for the rear link. I will try and get some pictures tomorrow if I remember.

Not to say there arent equally as good or better skid plates out there, but if I had to buy another I wouldn't think twice about making the same purchase.

we have the skids in stock... and they are just under what ronnies charged...

I'm also a fan of the Pro Armor stuff. The swingarm skid is extremely well-designed and durable. The belly skid looks & fits well but I would like to see a redesigned attachment method instead of the C-clamps. Also, the rubber anti-vibe strips are too thick and come loose easily. I ended up using foam weather stripping instead and that works much better. Be sure to use threadlocker on all mounting bolts too.

also i have the pro armor (i think might be blingstar?) engine skid and its bad i love it it just covers the engine part and its super light weight and ive hit it pretty hard and its still holding up great without any dents

Would u guys say that the swinger skid has much more clearance then the stock skid?

Never measured but they look to be about the same.

Alluminum is the way to go i've never seen a alluminum skid plate bend and bend the brake rotor, but i have seen that on a plastic skid. BTW Pro-armor is a great choice because their swing arm skids are 1/4 thick while other companies like DG's are 3/16 not saying that is much but i had a DG before too and they didn't even weld what i thought was a critical part (they made it like a flange with no horizontal welds just vertical hard to explain) but anyhow it bent after i hit a rock hard. It didn't hit the brake rotor but i didn't feel comfortable with it so i got the pro-armor and had no problems even after some really hard hits.

Ordered the skids last week for my project/new bike!!!

You stated that you also carry the pro armor line of skids. I was unable to locate the swing arm plate for my trx450R on your site. Also not sure if I was looking at a pro armor unit for the front either.

Cool thread with great pictures to help me determine which skid plate to get. Thanks.

I have the same chassis skid and I sheared the two rear bolts off their mounting tabs in a rock garden in Frostburg MD (and as a result, lost the mounting tabs that go over the frame, so i can't even fix it).

Now it vibes like hell even tho it still protects the underbody. I wish they had made the damn mounting points from steel and stronger. Worth the weight gain IMO. I haven't bothered to fix it yet but I'm not going through anymore rock gardens till I do.

i can tell you most likely dont ride insane rock gardens like some of us.. i love PRM products just as much as the rest but Pro armour makes a thicker product which is what i need.
