I stole the topic from exriders but thought I would share the trick over here. The '06 hrc "sub harness, cdi" as they call it simply eliminates one of the four wires on the plug.
So for all of you '06 owners you can just cut/remove that wire and gain 1000rpm plus a different timing curve. I suggested that you run the wire through a switch so you could toggle the two curves. Perhaps mount it on the bars and have on the fly tunability?

I was reading some threads on Thumpertalk and read about the mod that they do on the CRF450x it is very similar to this................Just goes to show how similar this engine is to the CRF450x in fact I think its the same engine.
In the CRF world its calle the PINK Wire mod.
PINK Wire ModThis is the page I got pics from:
pink wire threadalso do a search on crfsonly.com or thumpertalk on the pink wire mod and you will find a ton of info.

Us 04/05 owners don't need a fancy "sub harness" gizmo to get more power. We already have pleanty!

Plenty...yes...but we could all use more.
For the record. The wire to disconnect is the green one on the four pin connector. I would try to un-pin it from the plug so you don't have to cut it (if you don't have the hrc harness).

To depin that plug, you need to remove the yellow lock. Carefully pry the lock out with a screwdriver. Once that lock is out of the way, you will see a black tab. Lift that tab away from the pin, and the pin should be able to freely slide out of the back of the connector.

Can you tell us what unhooking the green wire really does? Just raise the rev limit up 1000 rpms, or change the timing curve also? If it changes the curve, what does it change it too?

Installation of the ICM sub-harness allows the engine to rev 1,000 rpm higher than standard. This modification provides a different ignition advance curve designed to compliment the other components of the kit

I snagged this picture from another website....
I have not done this mod yet, but it is the plug on the left - the only one with 4 wires.... I wouldn't recommend just cutting it the way it is shown....
Good luck!

Cutting the green wire adds a good bit more timing in the mid-high RPM, in addition to the increased rev limit.

Makes me wonder what our full CRF setup actually revs to. I've got a milk carton full of wiring, connectors, lights and all the other stuff that comes off with the conversion.
One thing is for certain, it's stupid fast!

wow, this is a cool find!
can anybody help me and post some step by step pics or explain more because I opened up my hood today after seeing this top and......... well there were a buttload of green wires on the left side.

sorry if this is noobish but I just picked the bike up this weekend and this would be a great help to the HRC....
P.S. DAMN THE HOOD IS EASY AS HELL TO TAKE OFF, I thought it was gonna be some of those tab things like on the 400ex but hell, I just pulled the thing off

If I remeber right it is the connector all the way to the left if you are standing right over the hood. I clipped the green wire and used heat shrink over it so I would not have to worry about shorting it out. I can take a pic of mine tonight if that helps.
