VCP 12.25 with rings and New Cylinder...

With the VCP Pistons you will use the SILVER Compression ring and the oil rings... NOT THE BIG BLACK COMPRESSION RING...

Tools (Feeler Gauges) Cylinder and Rings.... (not pictured yet is the FLAT FILE... 11doh1.gif ) (theres the handle to it on the lower left...) (Check out the PCs spark arrestor.... )

Install ring and use the piston to level it out... (you can use your EYES too but the piston is Fool Proof... thumbsup.gif )

Check the gap with the Biggest Feeler you can fit in the space between the ring ends.... MAKE SURE THE RING DOESNT TURN OR MOVE ON YOU... YOU WANT THE RING ENDS TO BE PERFECTLY IN LINE WITH EACH OTHER... THIS WILL CAUSE YOU TO HAVE WRONG READINGS IF YOU DONT MAKE SURE THEY STAY STRIGHT...

user posted image

If the gap is TOOO Small (i have a feeling it will be biggrin.gif ) Get a Flat File and put it in a Vice and run both ends of the ring on the file... PICTURE ME WITH 2 HANDS ON THE RING and not 1 holding the camera, AND PUSHING BOTH ENDS AGAINST THE FILE...

After a few or more strokes re-install the ring in the cylinder and check the gap again... (That is a .018 feeler if you wanna know... post-696-1105671348.gif )

When you get the Ring gap you want on both the comp. ring and the oil rings then you will be ready to put the rings on the piston.... Be sure to NOT LINE THE RING GAPS UP.... 11doh1.gif (Talk about burning oil.... ooh4.gif ) (i like to go at 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock, 3 and 9 )

I use Honda GN4 non moly oil for the Install of everything.... I use Honda 2 stroke oil for the ring install and to lube the Cylinder wall down with...

Install one of the Piston Wrist pin circlips in the piston....

user posted image

Then put the piston on the ROD and install the Wrist Pin.... then you can put the second circlip in (i used a LONG flat head screw driver and used the Clutch Cable as a Prying piece.... wink.gif )
MAKE SURE THE SMALL RELIEFS FOR THE EXHAUST SIDE ARE ON THE EXHAUST SIDE OF THE ENGINE.... thumbsup.gif
Also make sure you put a rag in the HOLES of the engine.... so if you drop the clip it doesnt fall into the engine.... 11doh1.gif <<< MAKES FOR A BAD NIGHT..... post-696-1105671448.gif smashpc.gif

Then slide the Cylinder down over the piston... This will take some time and Holding your Tounge just right.... tongue.gif ... with the Stock Bore Cylinder there is enough taper to it so the rings will slide up in there pretty easy.... TAKE YOUR TIME HERE AND DONT PINCH A RING..... post-696-1105671448.gif

(Also be sure to put your Base Gasket on here... Unlike yours truely did when takeing these pics.... 11doh1.gif

Then you can put the Cylinder Bolt in at hand tight and you can see how easy a well installed piston moves in your cylinder.... post-696-1105671348.gif

Nice work Killer! Next perhaps you can demonstrate how to degree in a camshaft. I know that is a big ?? for alot. Do that and you be da man post-696-1105671383.gif
KillerQuad
As far a Degreeing i dont have the Adjustable cam sprocket (just a Stocker) and my Machine guy is REALLY BUSY so he can do it for me like he did with my 440EX.... We got that sucker dialed in to the "T" when he sloted my sprocket....

I will have the Head install and the Cam install just at TDC... then i will even do the break in procedure...

But i might have to look into the Degreeing the Cam... Maybe TICE could tell me where it should be... i have the Entire HOT CAM DEGREEING KIT... so throw a number at me and it will see if i can get it there.... thumbsup.gif

Nice work, did you decide to run w/o the base gasket and see what happens or not? just wondering... 11doh1.gif

so, your running a HC2 cam right? What kind of degreeing will you do? Is this something we should all consider? I'm running a HRC and I'm sure it was put in normal, wonder if degreeing it would be beneficial? As you might guess, I'm not all that familiar with 4 stroke specs and cams, valves and so on. I'm still learning, coming off the 2 stroke.

Can't wait for the next "chapter". smile.gif

What would be the ring gap for the spacer ring between the oil rails?

Thanks

There should not be a gap in that. The two ends are butted together and then the ring is compressed when slid into the cylinder.

Is there such a thing as it being to long?

Do you ever have to shorten it?

The Degreeing is something that you cant really do with the Stock Cam Sprocket unless you get it sloted....

I still havent heard from anyone if degreeing in the cam will really make a HUGE diff. I would like to hear from TICE on that... Or even MIXX on where it should be or if i should just go with it at stock TDC like i have done for the past 2 yrs... ermm.gif

Yes i went a head and put the base gasket on.... post-696-1105671448.gif
