the '06 HRC HONDA manual says to replace the piston at 15 hours of run time....

this should give you a little insight into why Honda says that......

i don't know if you can see it from the pictures, but the '06 piston's skirt isn't even as long as the wrist pin boss...the piston is sitting on the pin boss, NOT its skirt...

it is easier to illustrate with extreme examples so think things this way...

a cylinder bore that fits tight around a 50 cent piece... how much wear would have to take place before the 50 cent piece could spin end for end within the bore of the cylinder??

you get the idea :hey:

Is there room to make the skirt a bit longer? If done on the aftermarket piston you might not shave weight but could gain some durability.

and that is exactly why Honda tells you to replace it every 15 hours of ride time... same as the CRF's replacement interval.... the skirt is only 20mm long!! (about 3/4")

short pistons don't live very long...and as much work as i do on engines, i do it to modify them so i like doing it.....

but replacing parts when they are worn out is another deal... i hate doing that, even if it is the same work....

i won't be making any super short pistons like the oem crf\trx one you see here
