I have a 2004 450r with a ported and polished head. It has a crack from the plug hole to the exhaust valve seat. Has anybody run their quads that way? I just put a +3 stroker and +3 bbk in it and don't want to cause too many problems before it blows to pieces.
I wouldn't be surprised if 1/2 or more of the oem heads on 10+ year old quads are cracked just like that. I know my buddy has been running one with a crack for about 9 years
Wtf? I would never be running a bike with a cracked head.
Because when something happens and you trace the issue back to that crack, you're going to be pissed at your self.
All but one head I've ever run has cracked into all 4 valve seats. Most likely it's ok to run but I wouldn't put any money into a valve job or other work. Cracks are common.
They weld and recut the whole aera, seem to hold up well, they have many heads out for testing. I don't have one personnaly since I just get 5 angles stock seat and valves.
If its a hair line crack its awfully common. Mine has been that way since i got it and ive been running it for 3 years now. I cant imagine it causing any problems unless you go to really high comp and a big bore. even then, i thinks its unlikely to cause a failure. I think if honda had seen issues with it they (hopefully) would have increased the distance from seat to plug to stop it from happening.
It is very common usually will not hurt anything it can be fixed
