2005 trx 450r mods

for christmas i bought my son a 2008 kfx 450r, it came with a curtis sparks full system and the Power Commander. we also think that he replaced the clutch. he will hit about 40 mph at the bottom of 3rd. i was wondering what i could do to keep up with him. he blows me out of the water.

Stage 2 hotcam full exhaust if your money allows it dasa, sparks, rossier, motoworks even. I know when I first got my bike I went with the stage2 hotcam it really woke it up. And what size sprocket did you change to?

X2 on the HC Stage II cam and full exhaust. If you can get your head ported too that really helps. Very noticeable gain.

Well I stay in NC so I ran 185 main and 45 pilot jet. As far as the Cdi don't worry about changing it. Put that money toward getting a FCR Carb or getting your head ported

The cam is your next thing and hrc or sparks needle I would go with a 182 main and 50 pilot.

Then a full exhaust, many good ones to choose from and some good deals in the for sale section. Esr is probably my favorite dasa has been known to make the max power but its not by much. Sparks, yoshi, hmf, and others are all good.

After that, the head is your next step. A decent rec port should add 3-5 hp a real good job 6-10 ( hp cost money)
While you have the head off bump the compression to 12-1 a good forged piston will be a lot lighter and the 1.5 compression helps as well and still run pump gas.

The bad thing about the 04/05 is that it takes more to run with the other quads then the 06 trx but that is where the bad stops. IMO you have a better quad just give it a little help.

CDI is a waste of money, most will loose power compared to the stock unit.

Hey neighbor, Don't waste money on cdi (yet) If you're on a budget, buy a decent used full exhaust and a HCII. The stock header is very restrictive. If you haven't replaced the piston yet, I'm sure it's time. The stock piston is a low comp. slug. Yes, you will need to re-jet. Very easy on an '04/'05 carb.
