Well I've been looking around for a good deal on enclosed trailers 20' and up. And I've seen a few second hand ones on craigslist for 2800-3500 about 500-600 miles from my place.... and then there are some new 24' ones on ebay for 3800$.

I'm going to use it mostly for storage and short runs on occasion. So the new one kind of appeals to me.

I want to drive down to Georgia and pick one up... this will be a 3500 mile round trip.

Do you think towing such a trailer with a 2000 1/2 tonne ex. cab sierra be able to cut it?

I don't have experience with enclosed trailers and towing one that size.

any input from you guys would be great

This is what I'm looking at.. http://cgi.*********/New-8-5-x-24-New-Enclo...=item4ce9c7cfb0

I'm willing to leave as soon as tomorrow cause if I want to do this I got to do it soon... I head back to work next Monday.

I have a 24 ft enclosed that I pull for work, and my 1/2 ton chevy pulls it ok. I don't go over 55 with it though, and only pull it as far as I have to to get the job done. And I only pull it in 3rd gear, not overdrive.

I used to have a FORD 1 ton diesel, and that would pull it like it wasn't even there, but this chevy is nowhere close to that.

To answer your question,,,, yes it will pull it, but not easily.

1800 miles at 55mph is a long ride.

I have a buddy with a 3/4 dodge with a v-10...... but I don't want to bust the bank in gas

For that price, I'm sure you could find one a little closer than 1800 miles. Even if you do have to pay a little more for the trailer, you would be saving that much in gas.

Can your half-ton tow it? Yes.

Is your truck going to like it? No.

That trailer probably weighs 3500-4000 lbs empty, which is close to half of your Sierra's tow rating. I've found that half-tons do fine up to about 5000 lbs when towing at freeway speeds for long distances. Heavier than that and they're just working too hard. They'll do it, they're just not happy about it. Plus, enclosed trailers are giant wind sails, they feel a lot heavier than an open trailer of the same weight. But if you're planning on using it mostly for storage and short trips, then none of this really matters.

I have a 7 by 16 enclosed trailer that I tow with a chevy 1/2 ton w/5.3. Does ok but wish I had a diesel truck. And like they were saying 50 to 60 does great but anything over that you really have to put you foot in to it, and my truck mileage goes down.

Just a couple of suggestions after looking at the trailer you are looking at in the Georgia.

1.) You'll probably kick yourself in the long run if you get that one with what looks like the 36" side door. You'll be much happier with a 48" side door.
2.) You might check some trailer manufacturers around Elkhart, IN. It's where many different trailer companies are located, and I'm sure trying to unload some overhead. It would also save you roughly 600 miles on your roundtrip...
3.) I wouldn't go any bigger than a 24' with a 1/2 ton, and like said above you will definately want to tow in 3rd instead of overdrive.

Hope that helps.

I have a 2007 new body style silverado with the 5.3. I pulled a 7x18 to little sahara from wisconsin and with 4 sport quads and gear, averaged about 8.5mpg. We pulled in 3rd and I wouldn't have wanted to go much bigger than that. I would keep the length to 20' or less. I wouldn't buy a 8.5' wide one either.

the 1/2 ton wont like it much. we had a 8.5x24 that we pulled with a 3/4 ton chevy with the 6.0 in it. also had 4.10s. the gearing in the 1/2 ton will kill ya and that thing will squat pretty bad. definitely be a loooong trip. but do able. i pulled an 8000 lb load with my titan but its got balls for a half ton. still needs stiffer suspension for heavy loads

Well so far I haven't had time to do anything about buying a trailer... I'm helping out my folks with the firewood while it's still sunny and dry.

Tomorrow is calling for rain so that will give me time to check some trailers out.

I'm planning to head down to boston and check a few second hand one on craigslist( about 600 miles away). Anything closer and they want an arm and a leg for them.

I towed a 24ft enclosed with a rail in it with my 1/2 ton Avalanche.
Trailer towed great i could do 65-70 but my truck was also geared to a 4:56.
I had no problems with pushing or wandering the truck and trailer drove really nice.

Make sure you have a brake controler if you're going to be dragging a new trailer 600 miles home.
