let me start by saying that this is my first experience with chain shortening..
it has a non oring chain on it and i tried to adjust it with no luck. it still has a lot of slack on the chain. can someone explain chain shortening 101 to me. it looks to me that if i take 2 links out then it would be to short. is there a fix for this? thanks. Frank. |

first of all, make sure your chain adjustment is all way at the end of its adjustment. if the chain is still loose, then you will have to take out a link. you will want to set your chain tensioner to about half way, and look at the chain to make sure you can risk removing a few links. after you mock up how much you need to remove, take a chain breaker and pop the link out. throw the master link back on and adjust it accordingly. always take out one full link at a time (which means where the master link can reconnect to the other end of the chain) then, if its still loose, remove more. you can remove links but it is unsafe to add them back on.
hope this helps.

if it's streched that far it may be time to get a new one. are your sprockets worn too. worn chains will trash sprockets fast.
