Since I am kinda new to the Sport Quad scene ( I have had Utility quads for about 5years) I am just wondering if the Heel guards are really necessary? I guess they could prevent your foot from being sucked in between the tire and peg and being ran over but does that really happen? I figure with my size 14 boot it would be hard to get between the peg and rear fender but maybe not. With all my Utility quads they have always had the floorboards I guess you could call them. So just asking the question on your opinion if they are necessary or not? I really like the stock ones I am just trying to find out how to lower my pegs.

Unless you dont need the flesh on your calv then they are a pretty good thing to have. Nerf bars with guards built on are what i use, theres nothing worse than landing and having your foot come off either in front or behind the peg 8 |

My cousin didn't have heel guards on his old Kawasaki Mojave, and he managed to get his foot between the foot peg and rear fender and ran over his leg. I don't remember the extent of his injuries, but we did have to take him to the hospital.

I do not use them for a few reasons:
1) They cause me not to be able to lean back far onthe pegs. With no heel gaurd I can get more leverage on the pegs when I am hammering whoops. 2) They are ugly in my opinion 3) They are extra weight 4) It keeps those clowns from asking to ride my quad, because they think they will lose their leg. I had them on my 400ex for a while, and I got way crooked off a 4th gear table top, came down crooked, and my foot broke right through the heel gaurd and I got ran over anyway (thank God for Sidi Force boots) |

No chit, lucky you had the boots. I dont think you would break through an AC pro peg heal guard though, JMO. 8 |

KGB,
I came down from a jump on my 400ex and my foot slipped back onto the heel guard. The force of my weight broke forced my foot through the guard and I ended up with the guard turned upside-down pinning my foot against the tire. BOTH sides of my leg were torn up, the front especially since it was scraping against the heel guard! I was bleedin like a stuck pig cause I lost most of the skin off of my shin. A major part of my error was that I was riding in tennis shoes and shorts, what a stupid idiot! Don't be as dumb as me...you will only regret it. I'll tell ya, riding boots would have saved me a lot of pain.

i dont use them, and i dont know i single person who does. if you pay attention on the 450r, there is a lower plastic mount on the rear fenders, and it holds the fender so that it wont move at all. i think this is good enuff, you can lean back against it and it wont budge.

I don't use them. That's why my ankle is broken now.
The reason I don't use them is because I can't ride as well with them on. When I start to get tired I have a tendancy to lean my heal back on them. I also can't ride wheelies or jump as good with them on since my heal seems to touch them. When I get my new quad I'll try them out for a while. But I'm sure I'll end up taking them off. If they make some aftermarket ones for nerf bars that are more out of the way than I'd be interested. |

I think a good set of boots are much more important than the heelguards are. I wear size 14 boots too and the 1st thing I removed from my quad was the heelguards.

I dont use them cause they were the first thing to break.
I dont know how but somehow when landing from a pretty fierce jump, the heel gaurd bent and got stuck in the back wheel. This bent and twisted the medal bars up, and it was stabbing into my tire, and I couldnt ride.....So I took them off, and I have not seen them since....
